Which Pokemon game you should play if you only like the anime

Though it can be difficult to know where to start with the core series, one Pokémon game in particular is perfect for fans of the anime to try out.


Although the games came first, there’s a strong chance it was the ’90s Pokemon Fans were originally introduced to the franchise through the anime. Some never went further, choosing to just stick with the beloved TV series, but with Ash’s tenure now coming to an end, pure anime fans’ attention may turn to the games for the first time. But with a wide range of titles across multiple devices, it can be difficult to find the best entry point into the games.

Since the original Pokemon Red and Green Games were released in Japan in 1996 (known as Pokemon Red and blue in the West), the franchise has grown to almost 40 titles in the core series alone. Each generation has unique traits that have slowly made the Pokémon world what it is today. The most Pokemon Generations have also added combat gimmicks to keep the franchise fresh. However, this can present an intimidating barrier for those looking to start playing the games; With so many titles to choose from, it can be difficult to decide where to start.

The Switch games are simplified remakes of the classic Pokemon yellowwhich itself was created to capitalize on early anime’s popularity by adapting the original Pokemon match games. As well as, Let’s go Eevee! and Let’s go Pikachu! Present players with their title Pokemon as a starter instead of making the choices Pokemon Red and Blue Starter trio that follows the player instead of staying in their Poké Ball. This means players can essentially take Ash’s place Let’s go Pikachu!a perfect setup for anime fans.

Let’s go Pikachu! allows anime fans to relive several key aspects of Ash’s journey. With a Pikachu at the player’s side, as well as version exclusives like Mankey and Grimer (and thus Primeape and Muk), the player is able to recreate Ash’s own team. Also as in Pokemon yellow, Let’s go Pikachu! replaces Team Rocket Grunts encountered everywhere Red and blue with the legendary team of Jessie and James. Just like in the original anime, the Team Rocket that appears in these Pokemon Games use Ekans and Koffing in combat, alongside Meowth of course. This makes the game perfect for those looking for a nostalgic experience.

Although both Pokemon: Let’s go! Games are the perfect choice for people who are looking for a way to make playing the games easier, Let’s go Pikachu! will clearly be the more appealing choice of the two for many anime fans. The fact that it offers as many experiences as Ash’s undoubtedly gives it an edge in terms of nostalgia. Of course that has to be taken into account Pokemon: Let’s Go Pikachu! also presents its own unique story, regardless of the possible parallels. This means that the player has his own adventure as Pokemon The protagonist is separate from Ash, making the experience a lot more personal than just watching the anime unfold.
