Pokémon GO has a huge Pokédex at this point, and there are many great Grass-type Pokémon to choose from to create a powerful team. But of all the new additions to the mobile game over the years, there are a few that stand out as the best Grass-type Pokémon compared to the rest.

In general, you can base the best Pokemon of a type class on the effective damage or defense it has in raids. Sometimes this effectiveness carries over to the GO Battle League as well, but not always. The best of the best are versatile and can excel in different elements of Pokémon GO.

There are arguments for a few different tips, but Venusaur is the best grass-type in the game, and it’s not hard to justify why. There are no other grass types that offer best-in-class for almost everything at a high level. Venusaur Along could make the top 5, but there are some versions of the Kanto starter that are awesome in-game.

Mega Venusaur is essentially the strongest Grass-type for raiding. It hits incredibly hard against good matchups, and moves like Frenzy Plant are a tough carry. Just below the Mega for there is also a Shadow form that deals a ton of damage and can easily overtake other picks in raids.

Getting a Mega can take time, but getting Venusaur itself doesn’t. Developing an Ivysaur is easy compared to picks like Zarude and Roserade, both of which round out the top 3 picks slightly. Venusaur is an easy entry point for trainers that deserves some credit.

In addition to being easy to access and raiding, Venusaur is a fantastic choice for the Ultra League in the Pokémon GO Battle League. The Kanto starter can also do well in the Great League with the right team. Roserade falls flat in PvP and Zarude only performs well in Master League. However, the takeover of ice-types in some leagues has caused grass-types to decline somewhat in general.

Zarude would be the next natural option after Venusaur for the best choice. It doesn’t need Mega Form and deals a ton of damage in raids. It can be a lot harder to get one, however, and it requires XL Candy in Master League to even work. Since you cannot catch Zarudes, you will need hundreds of Rare Candies.

There is no other Grass-type that combines raid effectiveness, accessibility, and PvP potential quite like Venusaur. The classic Pokemon is an easy pick for the best grass type in the game.
