WHO:

50-100 advocates at each location with signs reading “Stop Being Greedy” and signs reading “Greed” and “Greediad”.

Advocates are protesting Gilead for its deep and toneless price greed and policies, particularly illegal restrictions the company imposed earlier this year on certain dispensaries’ access to $340 billion drug prices for its branded hepatitis C treatments. Gilead is now one of over 15 big drug companies to have illegally placed such restrictions on their drugs

The AHF World AIDS Day Gilead protests follow a week-long, twice-daily series of protests in late October against Gilead, the maker of most of the most important and effective HIV drugs and hepatitis C drugs, at its Foster City headquarters , California. AHF previously protested Gilead’s greed and actions on four separate occasions during the spring and summer at the drugmaker’s Bay Area headquarters.

The 340B drug pricing program is administered by the US Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA). It has helped provide affordable medicines and better health outcomes to millions of Americans through the nonprofit clinics and hospitals that serve them. Safety net providers like Ryan White who care for patients living with HIV have the right under the 340B statute to purchase drugs at a reduced price. In March, Gilead put profits ahead of patients by unilaterally imposing unlawful conditions on when and how rebates will be given for certain hepatitis C drugs

“Gilead continues to demonstrate insatiable greed and avarice, showing that it truly cares much more about money than saving lives. On World AIDS Day, we pledge to continue to hold Gilead and CEO Daniel O’Day accountable whenever and wherever we can,” said AHF President Michael Weinstein. “The profiteering of drug companies and the abuse by Gilead and others of life-saving programs like 340B and community pharmacies across the country just has to stop!”

AHF mobilizers and advocates will also use real-time social media and hashtags at many of these Gilead protests: – #PeopleBeforeProfit – #GreedyGilead
