Two more Ottawa residents have died from COVID-19, while the number of people hospitalized with active COVID-19 infection rose slightly at the start of the long weekend.

Ottawa Public Health is reporting 10 people in Ottawa-area hospitals with an active COVID-19 infection, up from nine on Thursday. There are no patients with an active COVID-19 infection in the intensive care unit.

OPH hospitalization numbers represent only Ottawa residents hospitalized for an active case of COVID-19. Local hospitals are reporting higher numbers, including patients admitted for reasons other than COVID-19 who have tested positive and patients who are not from Ottawa.

Here’s a look at how many COVID-19 patients are in each hospital:

  • The Ottawa Hospital: 56 patients
  • Queensway Carleton Hospital: Eight patients
  • Montfort Hospital: 10 patients
  • CHEO: Three patients

OPH reported 70 new laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Friday. Daily case counts are considered to underrepresent the actual amount of COVID-19 in the community due to provincial restrictions on access to a PCR test.

Since the first case of COVID-19 in Ottawa in March 2020, there have been 73,028 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 803 deaths.

COVID-19 virus signal in Ottawa sewage continues to decline. The 7-day mean viral signal is at its lowest since March 23.

Public Health Ontario on Friday reported 24 new COVID-19 deaths as hospital admissions continue to fall. As of Friday, 1,165 patients are hospitalized across the province due to COVID-19.

  • 2 other shared apartments (shared apartments, supported independent living, etc.)

OPH is no longer reporting school and childcare outbreaks or community outbreaks, such as those linked to local businesses, religious organizations, or sports and recreational activities.
