Twice-Weekly Health Unit COVID-19 Update: Thursday, May 19, 2022 | windsorteDOTca news

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 53 new cases of high-risk COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County. Testing is still limited to high-risk individuals, with only the province estimating that actual COVID-19 cases are about 10 times higher than those reported.

NOTE: The Department of Health now only releases COVID-19 public health updates on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Of these 53 new high-risk cases:

  • 38 were reported on May 18
  • 15 were reported on May 19

Current cases

There are currently 68 active high-risk COVID-19 cases in Windsor-Essex (down from 79 active high-risk cases).

vaccinations

Here is the Health Unit’s COVID-19 vaccination update for today (Windsor-Essex residents).

  • 357,534 local people received a dose of vaccine (+39 doses)
  • 346,225 local people received a 2nd dose of vaccine (+66 doses)
  • 196,969 local people received a 3rd dose of vaccine (+131 doses)
  • 26,618 local people received a 4th dose of vaccine (+1212 doses)

vaccination percentages

  • 86.6 percent of Windsor-Essex residents (aged 5 and over) have received at least one dose of vaccine (up <0.1 percent)
  • 83.9 percent of Windsor-Essex residents (5 years and older) are fully vaccinated (up <0.1 percent)
  • 51.9 percent of Windsor-Essex residents (aged 18+) received a 3rd dose/booster (<0.1 percent increase)

There have been no further deaths from COVID-19 and the local death toll stands at 623.

The health department today lists 25 hospitalizations (down 1), and 4 of those hospitalizations are in intensive care (up 1).
