Tom Holland talks about his journey to sobriety
Tom Holland is no stranger to using his platform to shed light on important issues, this time it’s the fact that He’s celebrating over a year of sobriety.
During press work for his upcoming TV series The Crowded Room, the 26-year-old actor revealed that he is now been sober for a year and four months.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Holland explained that he was able to push himself playing his newest character Take a closer look at his own mental health.
“Learn about mental health and its power and talk to psychiatrists about it [the characters] Danny and Billy’s fights were something that was so informative of my own life,” Holland said. “I’ve gotten better at recognizing triggers and stressors, such as E.g. social media.”
Holland needs to distance himself from his characters.
Although this role played had a positive impact on his life, other roles can do the same sometimes take their toll on the actor.
“I’m no stranger to the physical aspects of the job in the whole action movie thing,” explained the ‘Spider-Man’ actor. “But the mental aspect, it really blew me up and it tIt takes me a long time to recover after to somehow return to reality”
“I saw myself in him (Peter Parker), but in my private life, I remember having a little nervous breakdown at home and thought, ‘I’m going to shave my head. I need to shave my head because I need to get rid of this character.'”
“And of course we were in the middle of shooting, so I decided against it. … It was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before.”
What is Holland’s latest project The Crowded Room?
According to the official synopsis, Apple TV+’s upcoming psychological thriller series will be set in “Manhattan in the summer of 1979, where a young man arrested for shocking crime and an unlikely investigator must unravel the mystery before the real criminal strikes again.”
The series is based on the 1981 nonfiction novel The Minds of Billy Milligan by Daniel Keyes, which tells the true story of a man diagnosed with multiple personality disorder, now known as dissociative identity disorder.
Holland, who plays the lead role of Danny Sullivan, is surrounded by cast members including Emma Laird, Emmy Rossum, Henry Eikenberry, Sasha Lane, Will Chase, Thomas Sadoski, Zachary Golinger, Sam Vartholomeos, Amanda Seyfried, Laila Robins, Henrique Zaga and more.
“The Crowded Room” is expected to be released on Apple TV+ on June 9th.
