Three years later, Pokémon fans are still solving the mystery of the Detective Pikachu sequel

You’d think a good detective could solve a mystery where the sequel succeeds Pokemon Spinoff Game is a feature film after more than six years. But it’s 2022 and the only news there is Detective Pikachu are updates obtained from unofficial sources and employee files.

Originally titled Detective Pikachu: birth of a new duo, Detective Pikachu was was released as a 3DS exclusive in Japan back in February 2016 before coming to the West in March 2018. This gap, coupled with the game’s release long after the Nintendo Switch was available, led fans to speculate that a port or eventual sequel would be coming to the hybrid console.

Finally, a live-action film based on the game was released in May 2019, grossing over $433 million worldwide.

Following the film’s success, TPC announced that Creatures Inc. was in the process of developing one Detective Pikachu Sequel that would continue the story of the original 3DS game for the Switch in May 2019. However, no official update on the project has been shared since then.

That’s not strange as we don’t usually hear about it Pokemon Titles were developed early, and it was probably only announced this far in advance because The Pokémon Company wanted to make sure the hype around the series wouldn’t die down anytime soon after the movie. But the only additional “updates” fans have received three years after that initial announcement have been scant hints from job listings and staff profiles.

Back in February, an internal Creatures job page was discovered that mentioned someone in charge of programming and drawing related to the Detective Pikachu To be continued, along with some additional information about his role and an upcoming focus on advancing the technology for projects. This has now been followed up by someone who discovered an updated biography for a senior games programmer at Creatures Inc, Jonathan Murphy.

On LinkedIn, Murphy lists that he’s working on an unannounced project at Creatures while also helping with development Detective Pikachu 2.

Murphy has been a lead programmer and Unity consultant at Creatures for over five years, so this listing carries a lot of weight to show that the game is still going strong. However, since this was initially pointed out, Murphy has updated his bio to the list Detective Pikachu 2 as “in development” where originally it said the game was “close to release”.

Considering the first game was revealed around Pokemon On the day of 2016 for its release in Japan, and then again around the same time frame two years later in the West, there’s a good chance fans will get something from it Detective Pikachu 2 News either later this year or early 2023.

Because there probably won’t be any Pokemon Spinoff game this year, between the release of two main titles like Pokémon Legends: Arceus and Pokemon scarlet and violetthis will actually be the first time since 1997 that the Pokemon Franchise does not get a spinoff title.

if Detective Pikachu 2 Announced and possibly released in 2023 after its predecessor has taken place in a rapid turnaround from reveal to release, it will likely be ordered similar to the 2020 timeline in which the spinoff game appears Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX spotlight before the first DLC for main games sword and Sign.
