Thora Birch explains Dani’s absence in Hocus Pocus 2

The continuation Hocus pocus 2 is now on Disney+, and while the follow-up film to the 1993 classic brings back many familiar faces, Torah Birch does not belong to it. Birch, a former child star, appeared in the original mumbo-jumbo as Dani, the younger sister of Max Dennison from Omri Katz. It had previously been reported that despite the filmmakers’ efforts to include her, Birch would not be in the new film.

In a new interview with entertainment tonightBirch spoke more about her absence in Hocus pocus 2. She confirms there were plans to include her and reveals that the filmmakers had several concepts of how to bring Dani back. The problem wasn’t the creative plans for her character, which she loved, but the timing as Birch was busy working on another project Hocus pocus 2 filmed. With that, Birch leaves the door open for Dani’s return Hocus pocus 3should that ever become a thing.


“We had three options to bring Dani back and everyone loved it. But as it turns out, I was already on to something else when they finally got to filming, so… I’m open-minded. You want to talk about spin-offs, you want to talk about everything, let’s go. That is the question (where is Dani today). That’s what we wanted to investigate.”

In a separate chat with ETBirch added that she was “dismayed” to miss it Hocus pocus 2 but is still looking forward to seeing the film on Disney+.

“I was just a little upset that I didn’t make it. I was working on something different when they were shooting otherwise I would definitely be on set with the girls. I can’t wait to see what they do with it. I know they’re taking a completely different, fresh approach, so I’m thrilled.”

Hocus Pocus 2 has arrived on Disney+

There are some returning stars for Hocus pocus 2, particularly with the return of the Sanderson Sisters, starring original actresses Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker. There are more surprises for fans of the original film, such as the return of Doug Jones as Billy Butcherson. The film also stars Sam Richardson, Whitney Peak, Belissa Escobedo, Tony Hale and Hannah Waddingham. Anne Fletcher directed the sequel from a script by Jen D’Angelo.
