The international jet setter’s Kiwi luxury holiday home ‘bolt hole’ on the market for sale – complete with a Bentley

A luxury coastal home that has temporarily been used as a New Zealand holiday residence by a high-flying international money market trader is now up for auction as the seller is keen to sell.
And on offer is the Australian supplier’s little-used 2005 Bentley Continental GT V12 – the famous motor vehicle brand driven by movie stars such as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone, or sports stars David Beckham and Kobe Bryant.

The immaculately presented high-end three bedroom, three living room resort style apartment overlooking Akaroa Harbor just outside Christchurch was purchased in 2006 by the European born financial sector executive. He fell in love with the house’s sensational views over the harbor, in addition to the bush-lined privacy of the house and its proximity to the community of Akaroa, which is just a short walk away.
Bathed in all-day sun, the light-filled 235 square meter home consists of two living areas, a separate dining area and several sunrooms, all framing the incredible sea views and surrounding bushland below.
Spread over approximately 15,230 square meters to emulate a Balinese resort, the single-story hillside residence offers expansive grounds with winding manicured pathways that lead to groves of citrus and walnut trees. The property also boasts a heated swimming pool flanked by a retractable aluminum roof and extensive decking area for sunbathing, a separate spa pool and a privately located Swedish sauna.
The Mediterranean style home at 10 Purple Peak Road in Akaroa will now be auctioned on March 30th via Bayleys Akaroa. Seller Chris Mangels acknowledged that while the home has technically been for sale through various brokers and agencies for more than a decade, its international owner is only now serious about selling the home.
“He worked outside of the home for years, sometimes coming in for a couple of weeks a year, sometimes four or five months in the summer. Yes, it was for sale, but only at a price the seller knew he couldn’t refuse … and didn’t really care if there weren’t any offers,” Mangels said.
“However, the number of visits and length of stay by the owner and his family have decreased in recent years as the owner and his wife have spent more time in Sydney with their children. Now he’s in a phase of, ‘You know what, it’s time to sell seriously once and for all,'” Mangels said.
“The house has been meticulously cared for over the last 17 years – always kept ready by a local team of landscapers and housekeepers should its owner decide at the last minute to fly to Akaroa from Sydney for a long weekend. It was never rented out as an Air B&B or anything like that – simply because the owner didn’t need it.”
Spacious and simply designed, all three of the house’s bedrooms are double the size – with the master bedroom boasting a walk-in closet and en-suite bathroom. The second bathroom is located between the other two bedrooms. The condo’s communal living and dining areas — including a covered patio and space for outdoor socializing — overlook Akaroa’s scenic harbour.
Alongside the smooth-running but big-engined Bentley parked in the garage, the security-alarmed Akaroa residence is being sold fully furnished — including everything from huge flat-screen TVs, heated floors, all beds and dressers, to a built-in European sound system in most boutique rooms -Vineyard with grape vines and original artwork.
Reflecting the owner’s commitment to environmental sustainability, the property also has its own water supply and solar heating, as well as a wood burning stove centrally located in the heart of the house. Away from the driveway, the stunning Purple Peak Road residence offers a double garage for the Bentley and one other car, plus a carport.
“It is the best equipped home you will ever find in Akaroa. It’s like the Hollywood Hills on Banks Peninsula,” Mangels said.
“Not only is the home being sold with everything a new owner could want to step right in and start a new life, but with the Bentley they have everything they need to get going… in true style.”
