The best way to get Decidueye from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
First there was Charizardthen there was Cinderella And Greninja. Now Decidueye is the latest seven star tera raid in Pokemon scarlet And Violet. This limited-time event gives you a chance to catch the grassy Alolan launcher, which is otherwise currently unavailable in the games. While there are still some aspects of the raid that we don’t know about, Game Freak has released enough information that we can properly prepare ahead of the event. Let’s recap some things to keep in mind to defeat and catch Decidueye the Unrivaled before it goes away forever.
When is the Decidueye Tera Raid?
The Decidueye Raid is ongoing and available until Sunday, March 19th at 7:59pm ET. Then it goes into the vault until the following week on March 24th at 8:00pm ET, finally ending on March 26th at 7:59pm ET.
What should I expect when facing Decidueye?
As with any seven-star raid, Decidueye will be at level 100, and any Pokemon you bring to battle should be too. While the Owl Archer has a base type of Grass and Spirit, its Tera type will fly. This means its inherent weaknesses and resistances will be more like those of a Flying Pokémon than its natural Grass/Ghost. Despite this, his moveset still includes moves from all three of those types, as well as a combat move. Therefore, it is important to consider what Pokemon you can bring that can both damage a flying Pokemon and withstand the damage of an enemy operating with grass, ghost and fighting moves. The complete Decidueye moveset includes:
- Brave Bird (Flying)
- leaf blade (grass)
- Ghost Shackle (Ghost)
- air cutter (flying)
- Feather Dance (Flying)
- sword dance (normal)
- Low Kick (fight)
Decidueye will use Feather Dance to lower your team’s Physical Attack. So if you can prioritize special attackers like Miraidon over physical attackers like Iron Hands, you’re probably in a better position to deal some real damage.
An example of what not to do is bring a Pokemon that can weaken flying Pokemon but would be vulnerable to a well-placed Leaf Blade or Spirit Bind, like the rock-type Sudowoodo or the ice/ghost-type Froslass. Both of these Pokemon would have rock and ice attacks to weaken Decidueye, but would itself be weakened by the attacks it will inevitably have. Even if you don’t end up running the Pokemon discussed in this guide, it’s important to be clear on how to beat Decidueye’s Tera-type weaknesses without opening yourself up to being bulldozed by his attacks.
Who is the best Pokemon to battle Decidueye?
Decidueye’s attacks are strictly physical vs. special attacks, it’s best to bring a Pokemon that has high physical defense and honestly seems to be one of the best picks Pokemon Violet Mascot Miraidon. Its Electric/Dragon typing makes it resistant to Decidueye’s Leaf Blade, and with a respectable base 100 Defense, it’s primed to deflect just about any grass attack. This will extend to Decidueye’s flying Tera-type as well, as his Electric typing will make him resilient to flying attacks. The Tera-type increases Brave Bird’s power and Swords Dance increases his physical strength by a few levels, but Miraidon is well equipped to deal with these attacks.
In addition, Miraidon can increase the power of your team’s electric moves with its Hadron Engine ability. This automatically creates electrical terrain on the battlefield, making electrical attacks more effective. If you want to gain every possible advantage, give Miraidon its own Electric Tera-type to boost Electric attacks even further. Decidueye has a much lower physical defense than Special and doesn’t have many physical attack options. Miraidon can learn Ferocious Charge with TM147, but considering how much stronger his Special Attack stat (135 bases) is compared to his Physical Attack stat (85 bases), you’re probably better off using Special Attacks anyway. Hadron Engine and an Electric Tera-type will more than make up for Decidueye’s high Special Defense.
Personally speaking I had teamed up with a team of randos for the raid and all four of us ran Miraidon and while I ended up playing the support role using applause, we were able to turn off Decidueye fairly easily. I use Hyper training to increase his IVs, also he equipped it with the Choice Specs item to increase its Special Attack and used PP Ups to increase Electro Drift PP for a good measure. One of us also used Taunt to ensure Decidueye could only use offensive moves to prevent it from boosting its own attack with Sword Dance or lowering ours with Feather Dance. Then it was just a matter of everyone unloading Electro Drifts on Decidueye to deal as much damage as possible.
How do I get Miraidon if I have Scarlet fever?
As I mentioned before, Miraidon is VioletThe mascot of is therefore exclusive to this version of the game. If you have Scarlet fever and want to run a Miraidon for the raid, you can only do so by trading with someone who has one Violet. However, it is not as easy a process as you might think. Violet has two Miraidon in total, and only one is tradable. The first is the one the player receives at the beginning of the game, which acts as their mount. While you get that silly little motorbike man early on, he can’t be used in combat until late in the game, when he regains all his power. So while a Violet Players can use this Miraidon in raid, it cannot be traded as you would lack a mount to explore its open world.
The Miraidon, which can be traded between games, is the one that acts as the final boss of the game. You must defeat it to complete the game, but then you must find it again in the depths of Area Zero. The quickest way to find it is to go to the Paldean Crater entrance and teleport to Research Station #4. Exit the lab and fly straight down off the cliff in front of you. The second Miraidon awaits at the end of a walkway leading to one of the giant Tera Crystals at the foot of Area Zero. It will be at level 72 and can be fought multiple times if you accidentally defeat it. But this is the Miraidon, which is transferrable between games and can be given to a fighter Scarlet fever Player who wants to defeat Decidueye.
Can I get a Hisuian Decidueye in this raid?
The Decidueye raid only features a standard Decidueye and not the regional variant introduced in Hisuian Pokémon Legends: Arceus. The grass/battle version of Decidueye is not available in Scarlet fever And Violet not yet and probably won’t be until Game Freak is integrated Pokémon house Functionality that allows you to trade between different ones Pokemon games and Scarlet fever And Violet. If you breed a rowlet with the Decidueye from this raid, it won’t evolve into a Hisuian Decidueye, since Pokemon will only evolve into their regional variant if they’re in that particular region. So there’s no way to bring in Hisuian Decidueye Scarlet fever And Violet at the moment.
Reminder: You can only catch one Decidueye
As with all Seven Star Raids, you can only catch one Decidueye in the Tera Raid event. You can join the battle to help your friends as many times as you like, but you can only catch one for yourself. The Decidueye also has a shiny cap, so if you want a shiny Decidueye Scarlet fever And Violet, you must do this through breeding. Just throw Decidueye and a Ditto together during a picnic and wait for the eggs to appear. Then you can have as many Decidueye as you like.
