The Batman receives three Oscar nominations

Matt Reeves The Batman received three Oscar nominations this morning, all in the technical categories that action and superhero films are traditionally a bit luckier to be recognized for. It’s not quite as exciting as Black Panther: Wakanda Forever She received five nominations, including best actress, but Warner Bros., whose DC films have struggled to connect with critics and audiences in recent years, must be feeling pretty good about the direction of their biggest franchise.

The Batman received nominations for Best Sound, Best Make-up and Hairstyling, and Best Visual Effects. This puts the film in competition with some of the biggest blockbusters of the year, including Avatar: The Way of Water, Top Gun: Maverickand Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

The Best Make-up and Hairstyling category includes nominations for nothing new in the West, The Batman, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,elvisand The whale. Best Sound nominees include nothing new in the West, Avatar: The Way of Water, The Batman, elvisand Top Gun: Maverick. Last but not least, it goes to the “Best Visual Effects” category. The Batman versus nothing new in the West, Avatar: The Way of Water, Black Panther: Wakanda Foreverand Top Gun: Maverick.

After The Batman‘s official synopsis: “Two years of stalking the streets and scaring criminals as Batman (Robert Pattinson) has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies – Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis), Lt. James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) – in the city’s corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures, the lone wolf has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance among his fellow citizens.

“When an assassin targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic schemes, a trail of cryptic clues sends the world’s top detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he uncovers characters such as Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin (Colin Farrell), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro) and Edward Nashton/aka the Riddler (Paul Dano). As the evidence draws closer home and the scope of the criminal’s plans become clear, Batman must forge new relationships, expose the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.”
