Sword Art Online Progressive’s first film is gearing up for its first overseas home media release and has released some cool new artwork to celebrate! The Sword Art Online franchise is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and has many projects in the pipeline. Not only has it successfully continued with a brand new feature film from the TV anime, but it is also preparing to continue those releases with a new film set to hit theaters across Japan later this year. So all in all, there’s a lot to celebrate for fans of the franchise.
With plans already in place to continue the Sword Art Online progressive film franchise with a second film, the Blu-ray for the first film will hit shelves in Japan this July. As a special addition for fans who snag the disc, there’s some cool new artwork from both the staff behind the film and the original illustrator behind the abec light novel series. Luckily, the official Twitter account shared some previews of this new art, and you can check out these two new posters below:

Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night hit theaters last year and will be released on Blu-ray in Japan in July, but has yet to confirm its international home media plans at this time. Aniplex of America officially describes the film as such: “This is a story from before ‘Lightning Flash’ and ‘The Black Swordsman’ were known by those names… The day she happened to don the NerveGear was Asuna Yuuki a third middle school student who had never touched an online game before. On November 6, 2022, the world’s first VRMMORPG, Sword Art Online, will be officially launched. However, players, still euphoric at having logged in, suddenly find themselves trapped within the game when the gamemaster denies them the ability to log out.
The gamemaster then gives them this warning: ‘This may be a game, but it’s not what you’re playing.’ When a player dies in-game, they die in the real world. Hearing this, all players panic and chaos ensues. One of these players is Asuna, but despite not yet knowing the rules of this world, she sets out to conquer the floating iron castle Aincrad, whose summit is too high to be seen. As the days pass in this world where death is never far away, she has a fateful encounter. And then a farewell… Despite being at the mercy of reality before her eyes, Asuna fights on with all her might until someone appears in front of her: the aloof swordsman Kirito…”
