On Thursday this week [ March 23] The usual monthly Waihi Meat Pack Tournament has been expanded to include a fundraiser, The Golfing for Gabrielle, to help the Hawke’s Bay flood victims.

On a perfect fall day, the upgraded meat packs and raffle prizes were hotly contested and the proceeds will go towards a good donation to this needy fund.

The top results were, for best gross it was Greg Rosevear with a 76, while best net was won by life member John Drent with a fine net of 66.

Gary Dunlop won the best stableford with 38 points per countback. Other honorees in Division 1 included Rhys Peden with 38 points, followed by Graeme Parkinson with 37 and Allen Sarjant with 36, with many others on 35. In Division 2, Bryce Bevin and Jenny Tubman both also had 38 points. with Greg Bundle on 37. Rhys Miller and Mike Rose finished with 36 points. Rodger Bagshaw and Graham Curd follow at 35.

MONDAY VETS:

A good field of 50 vets gathered for their weekly competition. While Karen Croker and Adrianne Lynch both had nice 40 Stableford points, it didn’t matter as the contest for the day was for the lowest number of putt strokes.

This was won by Heidi Tormey and Allen Smith, both of whom only had 26 putts for the 18 holes. Next came Bruce Rutterr and Gyan Prole, who recorded 28 putts, with Michael Bonnici and Kerry Lewis on 29. Two were scored by Heidi Tomey, Wendy Matutinovich and Gyan Prole.

MIXED NINE HOLE THREADING:

Luckily the rain held up on Tuesday for players to enjoy their weekly competition.

Great golf was played, Vicky Knight scoring 22 Stableford points and she was closely followed by John Vautier, Jill Morrison and Julia Nicolson, all at 21. Next came Jenni Mora and Margaret Meldrum at 18.

WEDNESDAY LADIES:

This week the ladies played the best stableford pairs by hole. This competition with a difference was entertaining and saw some close results.

First Karen Digglemann/Dot Ramsey with 46 points, second Kaylene Croker/Sue White with 45, then Viv Lilley/Helen Hunkin with 44, then Anke Hermannsdorfer/Jill Morrison with 42. “Dreamers Player of the Week” was Phillipa Harvey for her 69th net.

SATURDAY LADIES:

The combined women’s sections also made their contribution by holding a large raffle for The Golfing for Gabrielle fundraiser.

This week the Saturday Ladies played the first round of the Nancy McCormick 4somes. In the day’s net haggling, Jackie Robson was first at 69, followed by Carol Leary at 70 and Vivienne Lilley at 72.

SATURDAY MEN:

In the morning haggle, Division 1, Tim Parish finished best with 39 points while Ross Sayer and Allen Sarjant both had 37 points. Alex Standfield and Grant Robson had 36 points while Jonathan Clare had 35 points. In Division 2, The Senior Members came to the fore with Bob Hoggard having an excellent 43 points, followed by Bill Lind and Harry Shepherd both registering 39, followed by Paul Morgan with 37.

In the afternoon field, Mike Rose won the countback with David Campbell, both with 40 points. Next was Nic Davies at 39, while John Burns, Michael Matutinovich, John Taylor, Murray Gutry and Gary Morrison all had 38 points.
