Sturgis Tennis beats Three Rivers


The Sturgis tennis team defeated Three Rivers 7-1 on Tuesday afternoon.
The game started at 2 p.m. at Three Rivers High School. The Wildcats later played another conference matchup, also falling 7-1 to Edwardsburg.
In the match with the Trojans, Three Rivers won the third singles. There, Arabella Mangold beat Tess Scheske von Sturgis 7:5 and 6:1.
Sturgis won the other three singles games. Rylee Carver defeated Abigail Lemacks 6-0, 6-3 in the first singles. Emily Schuller went to three sets with Emily Workman in the second singles. Schuller won the first set 6-3, but Workman won the second 6-2. Schuller won the third and final set 11:9.
Gracie Perry also won for Sturgis, finishing fourth in the singles. She beat Laynie Zabonick 6-3 and 6-1.
Sturgis won the doubles matches, each of which went to two sets.
In the first doubles, the Sturgis team defeated Madison Golden and Johanna Rooyakker’s Lily Zabonick and Kenzie Rennis 6-1, 6-0. The second doubles team of Ava Stewart and Katherine Steel defeated Logann Chrisman and Lexie Page 6-1, 6-1.
Rosa Soto and Bella Currier teamed up to win third doubles. They beat Allie Lundquist and Daniela Artank 6-4, 7-5. In the fourth doubles, Sturgis’ team of Lauren Whitehead and Chloe Clark won Caydence Kinney and Lucy Olson 6-2, 6-2.
Three Rivers also won against Edwardsburg in Mangold’s third singles. She beat Julia Jones 6-1 and 6-0.
In the first singles, the Lemacks lost against Mackenzie Schaible 6:2, 6:2; Workman lost in the second singles against Eucris Ugay 6-4, 6-0 and Zabonick lost in the fourth singles against Abby Pryor 7-6 (3), 6-3.
Delaney Haradine and Leah Stern won for Edwardsburg in the first doubles against Zabonick and Rennie 6-0 and 6-1. Chrisman and Page lost in the second doubles against Libby Freudenburg and Julia Lewis 7:6 (3), 6:3. Lungquist and Artank were upset by Ryleigh Reynolds and Erin Letter in the third doubles 6-2, 7-5, and the fourth doubles team of Kinney and Olson lost 6-0, 6-1 to Mya Eberlein and Grace Maynard.
