Spider-Man: No Way Home became the first film in the pandemic to reach $1 billion in box office worldwide. But even as months have passed since its theatrical release and it’s available online, the film is still not streaming through a subscription service.

And it won’t be on any of the services that come to mind first. The latest Spider-Man movie won’t be coming anywhere near Disney Plus anytime soon, despite actor Tom Holland’s Spider-Man appearing routinely in Disney’s Marvel films. Netflix is bringing Sony’s movies from this year and beyond, but No Way Home hit theaters too soon to be headed to Netflix. and HBO Max became particularly well known for streaming new movies after making all Warner Bros. movies available to stream the same day they hit theaters for the past year. but HBO Max is not and will not be streamed Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Sony Pictures is the distributor behind No Way Home, and its deal with Starz means Now Way Home will eventually stream there.

Where and when will Spider-Man: No Way Home be available to stream?

No Way Home will begin streaming on Starz on July 15th.

Sony has reached an agreement that its 2021 movies will go first to premium cable network Starz, where they can be viewed on both its traditional channels and its streaming app. So Starz will be the first place where you can stream it.

Will Spider-Man: No Way Home ever come to Disney Plus?

It’s possible, but it won’t be on Disney Plus anytime soon unless Disney and Sony strike a new deal.

Spider-Man as a character descended from Marvel, but Disney’s Marvel has a complicated licensing deal with Sony for the Spider-Man characters in the film. Basically, Sony is responsible for making and distributing standalone Spider-Man Universe films, and then Disney’s Marvel can “borrow” the characters for films in its own Marvel Cinematic Universe. That’s why Tom Holland’s Spider-Man shows up in the Avengers movies.

This is also the reason for you can Stream some movies on Disney Plus starring Holland as Spider-Man – but you tip Stream one of the Spider-Man specific movies there.

The same arrangement applies to the Venom movies and the Morbius movie coming out this year. Those are Marvel characters, but the movies are Sony-distributed movies, so they’re not slated for Disney Plus any time soon.

You may have read some articles about how Spider-Man movies will be coming to Disney Plus thanks to a new deal that landed last year. That’s true, but it’s tricky — the deal may not apply to No Way Home.

Disney secured a Deal with Sony in April to stream some catalog Spider-Man films as well as Sony films that hit theaters between 2022 and 2026. First, those 2022-2026 theatrical releases won’t make it onto Disney Plus for many, many months; they will actually be first exclusively on Netflix. But since No Way Home was set to hit theaters in 2021, that part of the deal doesn’t apply to it anyway. Second, neither Sony nor Disney are confirming when — or if — No Way Home will be considered a “catalogue” film that could be streamed on Disney Plus.

Bottom line: if you hold your breath for No Way Home to stream on Disney Plus, it’s going to be a long time before you can breathe out – if ever.

Will Spider-Man: No Way Home stream on HBO Max?

No, not in the foreseeable future.

HBO Max streams every Warner Bros. film and is known for aggressively grabbing the TV and streaming rights to top films. And HBO Max is closely related to the concept of same-day streaming, having released more movies this way than any other streaming service. This has raised some misplaced hopes among moviegoers any new film is coming to the cinemas. Without knowing which studio is distributing this new movie, many people are getting curious if it’s also one of the movies available on HBO Max.

But Spider-Man is distributed by Sony, not Warner Bros., and HBO doesn’t have a deal to stream Sony movies first, so No Way Home isn’t on the way to HBO Max.

Will Spider-Man: No Way Home stream on Netflix?

Very unlikely. Sony signed a deal with Netflix last year for all of its theatrical releases in 2022 to stream on Netflix before they’re available on another service or TV network, but No Way Home was released in 2021 before the pact went into effect. The deal also included stipulations that Netflix would also “license select titles from [Sony’s] huge film library”, but No Way Home is unlikely to be considered a library title any time soon.
