Inter have been a bit bumpy in their last four games, losing to Spezia and Bologna while drawing 2-0 against Lecce. The Nerazzurri’s last game was a goalless draw against FC Porto, but their 1-0 first-leg win sends them into the Champions League quarter-finals against Benfica.
Juventus have had a better streak of results in the last three games. Why Inter Milan can beat Juventus
The Black and Blues are currently second in Serie A with 18 points to catch leaders Napoli. You are also in survival mode to conquer Coppa Italia and Italian Super Cup. Inter have a 16-2-8 record, scoring 47 goals and conceding 30. Inter boast a 11-0-2 record at home, the third best record in Italy.
Simone Inzaghi’s side averaged 16.3 shots, 5.8 corners and a ball possession rate of 55.5% in 26 games in Serie A. Lautaro Martinez leads the team with 14 goals while Nicolo Barella leads with six assists. Edin Dzeko has 10 goal involvements for La Beneamata. The team has been a bit of a peach in their last four games. They lost to Spezia and Bologna and drew 0-0 with FC Porto in the Champions League knockout stages. Luckily, their 1-0 win in the first leg was enough to earn them a spot in the quarter-finals where they will face Benfica.
More impressive are Il Biscione’s defensive improvements this year. Since the calendar switched to 2023, the Nerazzurri have conceded just nine goals in 16 games. They aren’t very impressive on offense either, as 10 of those games ended with Inter either scoring or being ruled out. Regardless, Inter have only lost three times this calendar year and also drawn three times. Inter’s defensive metrics are now nine goals against, along with 15.3 tackles, 8.4 interceptions, 13.0 clearances and 2.5 saves per game.
Almost blessed with a full squad, Inter coach Inzaghi is likely to be without Alessandro Batoni. Defender Robin Gosens is also questionable. Inzaghi’s 3-5-2 formation will come into its own here, with Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku occupying the front seats. Andre Onana will take on goalkeeping duties and the back three will be Milan Skriniar, Stefan de Vrij and Francesco Acerbi. Edin Dzeko should see some time as a replacement for the striker.
Why Juventus can beat Inter Milan
Juventus are now in the top 7 of Italy’s top flight. A 15 point deduction currently gives them 38 points, which is good as they still finish above the top half in domestic competition in Italy. They still have at least seven points to go and dethrone Atalanta to secure a place in the top six to qualify for next season’s UEFA Europa Conference League. They have scored 44 goals while conceding 22, giving them a +22 goal difference.
Since the turn of the calendar, Juve have lost only three times – a 5-1 loss to Napoli, a 2-0 loss to Monza and a narrow 1-0 loss to Roma. The Bianconeri are 8-1-1 in their last 10 games, which is good considering they still compete in Serie A, Europa League and Coppa Italia. In their last three games, Juve have won both of their Europa League knockout stages against German club SC Freiburg. Juve scored three goals in total and kept a clean sheet in both games. Their last game in Serie A was a 4-2 win at Allianz Stadium against Serie B’s Sampdoria. Juventus had two quick goals within 26 minutes but Samp equalized six minutes later. Juve used a better style of play in the second half and scored two more goals. Adrien Rabiot scored twice in that game while Bremerand Maias Soule scored the other two goals.
The zebras will be super motivated to snag victory as a visitor. Juventus have six wins and two draws in 12 away games for their fifth-best travel record, leading to 20 points. This season, Dusan Vlahovic leads the Zebras with eight goals while Filip Kostic has eight assists. Adrien Rabiot has nine goal involvements while Angel Di Maria has eight goal involvements. Defenders like Danilo, Bremer and Leonardo Bonucci combined to score seven goals for the Bianconeri.
Head coach Massimiliano Allegri has to deal with the absences of Moise Kean, Arkadiusz Milik, Alex Sandro and Paul Pogba. Bonucci is also dubious about showing up.
Juve need to match or surpass their Serie A stats of 14.2 shots, 5.1 corners and 1.7 goals per game if they want to win this game. They also make 15.3 tackles, 8.2 interceptions, 16.7 clearances and 2.5 saves, defensive stats that are good for an offensive team like them. If Bonucci passes, Danilo and Bremer will join him to form Juve’s back three. Wojciech Szczesny will start as a goalkeeper for Juve. Vlahovic and Di Maria will set the pace and lead Juve’s attack.
Final Inter Milan-Juventus Prediction & Selection
Juve may have won the first fight back in November but the forms of both teams have changed since then. This one will likely be a high score Derby d’Italia game but expect the hosts to split the season streak and claim the crucial home win.
