Santa Anita Horse Racing Picks for Sunday 3/19/23

The Santa Anita Classic Meet continues Sunday at “The Great Race Place” with 11 races and post time at 3:30pm ET / 12:30pm local time.
As always, check the program for scratches and changes, and keep an eye on the weather and track conditions.
(I’ll refer to Equibase’s speed number in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse ran in each of its races after being adjusted for course, distances and conditions).
According to NumberFire Horse Racing predictions, these are some of the best bets to make at FanDuel Racing today.

Race 3 is the $100,000 Sensational star stakes for Cal-bred older horses at 6 1/2 stadia on the downhill grass course. The NumberFire data projects the heavy favorite The chosen Vron (3/5) to win up front Indian Summit (4/1) and Fast buck (3/1).
The Chosen Vron has had a 5 race winning streak for California breeds at stake since early September. He returns to a turf sprint race for the first time since his victory in October.
FanDuel race odds: 5/1 and 7/2

Race 5 is an allowance sprint at 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf. Riding 5 stadia on the grass is about the same as walking 4 – 4 1⁄2 on the main course. So find a horse that has shown top speed in the last quarter mile of a race and he will be there.
NumberFire believes it is Mas Rapido (7/2) riding with leading jockey Frankie Dettori. He finished just second at the circuit at the end of January behind the favourite, who ran 6 1/2 furlongs after leading into the track.
Mark’s hip (6/1) and kingdom heart (5/1) are the top challengers. Mark’s Hip has top jockey Juan Hernandez ride off the rail. Kingdom Heart gets Lasix for the first time on its third start and ran a stakes race here two weeks ago. A strong morning work in February shows its speed.

Race 9 is a Maiden Special Weight for state bred 3-year-old mares who sprint 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf. Isabel Ludlow (2/1) showed this direct hit a month ago on her second start. She came off the pace in second place and finished ahead of the favourite. She needs to move into the 12-horse field as first alternate, but if she does, she’s a winning decision.
Isabel Ludlow is a top contender, along with the predicted winner, according to NumberFire data Bayan Bashert (5/2) who finished 2nd and 3rd in her two starts on this grass course including being a 2/5 strong favorite in the last race. boss (6/1) makes his debut here and tries to break away from the track at the front.
