SA Flavor Reveals Fiestamon Trading Card Medals for Fiesta 2023

A prolific Fiesta medal maker in San Antonio is hoping to bring back the tradition of trading with a fun new design that will have medal maniacs wanting to catch them all.

SA Flavor, the puro San Antonio company, has been working with local organizations and nonprofits to raise money through the sale of Fiesta medals for nearly a decade. As well as promoting local organizations, owner Garrett Heath gets his children, 8-year-old Natalie and 6-year-old Gavin, involved in the fun by using their creativity and interests on a design each year.

For 2023, Garrett said his kids are planning to dig their teeth into their newfound love: trading card games. Along with his kids, Heath designed a series of unique Pokémon-inspired Fiesta Medals that celebrate the fun of Fiesta San Antonio. SA Flavor officially unveiled the designs on Friday, March 17th and added them to the Fiesta Medals online store.

There are eight different card designs featuring the Fiestamon, including Medal Maniac Snorlax, Eevee, and Flower Crowned Mew, along with other iconic characters. The medals are a true mix of San Antonio inspiration, from the card numbers representing some iconic Spurs jersey numbers to the 210 health points, the Alamo, and Fiesta-laden references like chicken on a stick (as an energy!), Cascaron- based attacks and Fiesta colors abound.

In the spirit of the legendary trading card game, the Fiestamon Medals are sold in blind pouches, and collectors must hope they draw the designs they love most. Four of the designs will be “rare,” and Heath said that for each of the eight designs, there are gold and glitter versions of the designs reminiscent of holographic or alternative “full art” cards, which are highly sought after in card collectibles.

Heath said that regardless of online availability, they will be available in person at the SA Flavor Fiesta Medal Party on Monday, March 20 at the Burleson Yard Beer Garden. There will be 20 Fiesta Medal Vendors spreading Fiesta flair along with some yet to be announced designs that will be available once the party starts at 6pm

A dollar from every medal purchased from SA Flavor goes to a specific nonprofit based on the medal designer. Proceeds from Fiestamon benefit Natalie and Gavin’s school, Promesa Academy Charter School.
