Red Bull Racing junior Iwasa wins F2 sprint race, Martin’s second

Red Bull Racing junior Ayumu Iwasa has won the Formula 2 sprint race in Saudi Arabia. The DAMS driver fended off several attacks from Jehan Daruvala and Victor Martins in the final stages of the race.

Victory went to Iwasa, who had started fourth and was able to make up two places there. Not long after, he took the lead from Jak Crawford, but that didn’t last. A spin by Zane Maloney brought out the safety car and it wouldn’t have been the last.
Not long after the restart, championship leader Theo Pourchaire drove into Oliver Bearman and the two crashed. Another safety car followed. After the race restarted, Iwasa managed to deftly hold on to the lead, repeatedly fending off attacks from Martins and Darvula. In the closing stages, Martins took second place ahead of Daruvala, who had to settle for P3.
