Marvel Studios has released a new recap of Ant-Man’s history from Brazil Comic Con. The video traces the journey of Paul Rudd’s size-changing hero from his earliest encounter with Hank Pym and the Ant-Man suit to his latest challenge against Kang the Conqueror, and sheds light on Scott Lang’s story before him Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
While the particular look is mostly footage we’ve seen before, the montage ends with a threat from Kang as he tells Lang, “Your reality, anything you hold onto, I know how it ends. You’re out of your league, Ant-Man.” While this doesn’t add much to the menace we already know Kang represents the Marvel Multiverse, it’s still a chilling sign of exactly what challenge Ant-Man and his comrades-in-arms is waiting.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is described by Marvel Studios with this synopsis:
“In the film, which officially kicks off Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, superhero partners Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne return to continue their adventures as Ant-Man and the Wasp. Joining Hope’s parents, Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne, as the family explores the quantum realm, interacts with strange new creatures and embarks on an adventure that will push them beyond the limits of what they thought possible.”
How great the threat to Kang will be Quantumania?
What is clear is that Kang the Conqueror will not be a pushover. On the contrary, his multiple-reported appearances in the upcoming phase are expected to bring increasingly powerful versions of the character to the MCU. However, everything builds on phase 6 Avengers: Secret Warswhile Kang will always be a dominant force, Quantumania won’t see him easily defeated and put aside in the film, which could spell trouble for Scott and his fellow Quantum travelers.
So far, the multiverse has slowly evolved through a series of MCU TV shows and films. Loki introduced one of the most benign versions of Kang we’re likely to see and seemingly set in motion the rupture of the multiverse. films such as Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness have continued to slowly diminish the possibilities of the multiverse, as well as its dangers.
There are many more multiverse adventures to come as we head into 2023, including Loki Season 2, which could reveal a different version of Kang in the new world the god of mischief found himself in at the end of his first season. So far, the multiverse hasn’t quite delivered the way fans wished, but patience usually pays off, and over the next few years it looks like corners of the multiverse will be explored that no one expected. The deeper the MCU delves into the Multiverse saga, the more Kang’s presence will no doubt be felt.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania hits theaters on February 17, 2023.
