Purdue stays in Florida on moving day

TALLAHASSEE, Florida. – Purdue Women’s Golf entered the second round of the Florida State Match Up in sixth place and stayed there after Saturday afternoon’s game. The Boilermakers had to deal with a 90-minute weather delay early in the round and shot 299 (+11) to improve their opening round despite staying in midfield.

Purdue continued to lead the field in the par 5 scoring. After playing holes 6-under in the first round, the Boilermakers were again in the red (-1) on Saturday to finish 7-under on the par 5s over 36 holes. However, the No. 12 Florida Stateman extended a lead on their home course, shooting 3-under (285) as a team to establish a 15-shot advantage over second-placed Augusta, who is going into the finals.

Kan Bunnabodee fired off a 73 (+1) to speed up Purdue, her lowest round of the season. It was the first time this spring that the 2022 First Team All-B1G golfer led the team in scoring after missing the fall through injury. The senior finished her round with birdies while adding another on the par-5 14th. While the Boilermakers remained in sixth place as a team, Bunnabodee jumped to 13th in the individual leaderboard.

Ashley Kozlowski And Momo Sugiyama added laps of 74 (+2), just behind Bunnabodee. Kozlowski started the day tied in 19th place and stayed there after Saturday’s game with a 37 on both sides of the court. Her front nine consisted of eight pars and a bogey before starting with a birdie on the back par 10th par 4. After curling #13, Kozlowski got the hit back with a birdie at #16 to level her round. However, she suffered a double bogey on the final hole.

Sugiyama recovered from a double bogey to start her day by playing the final 17 holes at level par. The sophomore made three birdies through a five-hole stretch on the face before firing 10 straight pars. She sits 7-over alongside her teammate in 22nd place Danielle du Toitwho contributed to the team score with a 78 (+6).

The Boilermakers are within five shots of match-up partner Kent State (+18) and just three shots behind Tulane (+20) with 18 holes remaining. Purdue tees off alongside the Golden Flashes and the Green Wave for the final round starting at 8:30 a.m. ET on Sunday morning.
