Protesters wearing armbands are demanding the Bucksburn swimming pool be saved from closure

Protesters wearing rubber rings and wristbands gathered outside Bucksburn swimming pool today demanding it be saved from closure.
The pool is set to close on April 16 after Sport Aberdeen’s budget was cut by nearly £700,000 due to cuts by struggling City Council.
However, a petition to keep it open has garnered thousands of signatures – and a group called Save Bucksburn Swimming Pool has pledged to fight vigorously for its future.

Opposition councilors joined members of the community in the protest today, which saw chants such as “Save our pool”.
Those who have railed against the pool’s closure say it is vital to providing swimming lessons to youngsters, while many also argue that if it were to close, care for those with limited mobility would be significantly worse.

The pool’s future has become a controversial political issue as the ruling SNP and the Liberal Democrat local authority partnership have accused the Labor group of “hypocrisy” over the budget decisions that could lead to its closure.
