British Royalty and Hollywood royalty converged on the red carpet for the charity premiere of Tom Cruise’s new film Top Gun: Maverick on Thursday night.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were the ultimate wingmen as they arrived in Leicester Square, London ahead of the screening of the sequel to Top Gun, in which Cruise reprises his most famous role almost four decades later.

Kate shone in a timeless crepe dress by Roland Mouret. The fitted black dress was accented with a crisp white strapless tie and she completed the glamorous look with a black clutch bag and a pair of starry earrings by Robert Pelham.

Prince William complemented his wife’s chic look by opting for a classic blue velvet tuxedo and showed his love of aviation with shoes embroidered with two airplanes.

Cruise walked the red carpet with the Duke and Duchess and introduced them to his co-stars Jennifer Connelly and Miles Teller, as well as the film’s producer, Jerry Bruckheimer. The royal couple looked happy chatting, laughing and chatting on the red carpet before heading to the screening.

As the trio reached a small flight of stairs, Cruise immediately turned and shook hands with the Duchess, who was walking beside him.

Cruise is back on the air 36 years after the original Top Gun movie was released in 1986. Top Gun: Maverick, due out in US theaters on May 27, stars his character, US Naval aviator Pete “Maverick”. “Mitchell returning to Top Gun Academy to train fighter pilots.

The highly anticipated film was originally slated for a July 2019 release but has been repeatedly delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“(Prince William and I) have a lot in common. We both love England and we’re both aviators, we both love flying,” Cruise told reporters ahead of the royals’ arrival, according to the Daily Mail.

The event, a Royal Film Performance, was organized in aid of the Film and TV Charity, which helps people working behind the scenes in the UK film and television industry.

This isn’t the first time the royal couple has hooked up with Hollywood A-listers.

In September last year, they attended the premiere of the latest James Bond film No Time To Die, along with the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

Kate charmed onlookers in a floor-length gold-plated Jenny Packham gown and was photographed chatting to Daniel Craig, who looked dapper in a cherry velvet double-breasted tuxedo jacket from Anderson & Sheppard over a white shirt and black bow-tie.
