ProjectK is the first collaboration between Prabhas, who rose to global fame with Bahubali, and Nag Ashwin. It also marks Deepika Padukone’s Telugu debut. When asked about the project by a fan on social media, Ashwin replied that they had finalized the initial schedule. The next schedule starts from the end of June.

A tweet from Nag Ashwin about Project K.

In March, Ashwin took to Twitter to ask Anand Mahindra for help building futuristic vehicles for the film, which is being made on a generous budget. He added that with this film they are trying something great that could make the nation proud.

Ashwin wrote: “Dear Mr. @anandmahindra… we are shooting an Indian sci-fi film starring Mr. Bachchan, Prabhas and Deepika called #ProjectK. A few vehicles that we build for this world are unique and beyond today’s technology…if this film does what it is supposed to do, it will be the pride of our nation.”

Asking for Mahindra’s support, Ashwin continued, “I admire you greatly, sir. We have a talented all Indian team of engineers and designers. But the scope of the project is so big that we could use a hand. A film like this has never been attempted before… we would be honored if you could help us create the future.”

In February 2020, the project was officially announced via a special video released to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Vyjayanthi Films, the creators of the film.

Nag Ashwin rose to fame with the Savitri biopic Mahanati starring Keerthy Suresh.
