Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s versions of Hisuian Pokemon are a step away from being paradoxes
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet introduce Paradox Pokemon, but this isn’t the first time players have encountered creatures from the past.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet introduce players to strange creatures from the past and future called Paradox Pokemon. These Pokémon are powerful, but they also pose a threat to Paldea. In Scarlet, The Pokémon are from the past, which is striking because Pokémon Legends: Arceus features Hisuian Pokemon that also existed in the past. This leads to the question of whether there is a difference between Paradox Pokemon and Hisuian variants.
The main difference may be that the creatures of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are many thousands of years old. In comparison, the Hisuian variants hail from the not-too-distant future. While this may answer some questions, it doesn’t explain why the Paradox Pokémon are so powerful.
What are Scarlet and Violet Paradox Pokémon?
scarlet and violet takes place in Paldea, where players will meet several characters, including a young student named Arven. He feels neglected because he hasn’t seen his parents for a long time. In scarletit’s his mother while she’s inside violet it is his father. You are an important researcher, and their absence leads Arven to believe he has been turned down for scientific research. In scarletFinally, players venture into Gen 9’s Area Zero, where they discover that Arven’s mother passed away long ago and was replaced by an AI robot (and his father meets the same fate in violet).
Players learn that Arven’s version-exclusive parent created a time machine that brings Pokémon from the past to the present, in the event of scarlet. However, these Pokémon are far too powerful and risk destroying Paldea. This forces players to intervene and destroy the time machine to prevent more Pokémon from the past from coming to the present. These time-travelling creatures are known as the Paradox Pokémon, and players can catch some of them as they explore Area Zero. Examples of Paradox Pokémon include Brute Bonnet, the ancient form of Amoonguss, Flutter Mane, the former form of Misdreavus, and Roaring Moon, the former form of Scalamence. It’s never explained why the Paradox Pokémon are strong, but it seems the series is set in a time of relative peace where Pokémon don’t need to be overly powerful to survive in the wild.
Here’s how Legends: Arceus’ Hisuian Forms and Scarlet and Violet’s Paradox Pokemon differ

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is a spin-off title set in the Sinnoh region but in the distant past when it was still known as Hisui. During this time, people are still very afraid of Pokémon and are still learning how to live in harmony with them. As players explore the region, they will discover many familiar creatures. Some creatures are slightly different versions of modern-day Pokémon, including examples like Hisuian Zoroark and Hisuian Goodra.
On the surface, Hisuian variants and old Paradox Pokémon are basically the same, since both groups contain Pokémon from the past. However, there is a slight difference that might differentiate the two. There has been speculation about this Pokémon Legends: Arceus takes place around 150-300 years before the events of Gen 1, partly because Sinnoh’s development seems to follow the development path of Japan during the Meiji Restoration movement. In comparison, the Paradox Pokémon are at least a billion years old. Evidence of this can be found in the Pokedex, where Scream Tail is described as a Jigglypuff variant from a billion years ago. It may be this timescale difference that separates the Paradox Pokémon from the Hisuian variants.
As such, when Hisuian Pokemon comes back to Gen 9 via Pokémon house, they will look like old Paradox Pokémon, but this fundamental difference sets them apart. Players may get new Paradox Pokémon soon, rumors suggest scarlet and violet DLCs are on the way. This DLC could also bring Hisuian Pokemon to Paldea. These creatures could shake up the competitive scene, since Pokemon like Ursaluna are some of the strongest the series has to offer.
