PlayStation 5’s first official tournaments begin in FIFA 23, NBA 2K23 and more

Playstation Tournaments, Sony’s next step in a new generation of competitive gaming, is now officially launching the first series of tournaments for Guilty Gear Strive, NBA 2k23, FIFA 23 and more on Playstation 5.

Throughout the next two months (between December 1st and January 31st), players of these three games can participate in the PlayStation Tournaments: Win-A-Thon on PS5 and PS4 consoles and win various prizes. Each Win-A-Thon eligible tournament contributes to the overall ranking of players on their regional leaderboard, and at the end of January, the players with the most points will win accessories like the new DualSense Edge wireless controller or the Pulse 3D wireless headset, while PS4 Contender could potentially win a PS5 console.

Hosting and registering for these tournaments has never been easier, thanks to a wealth of new features powered by the intuitive PS5 home screen. Discovering and registering a tournament can now be easily done from the Home Control Center and a new user interface will be implemented to notify players of tournament information, start times and grant access to all relevant details in real time. Multiple tournament brackets will also be automatically created based on the number of participants using a new feature called Bracket Capping.

Included in the blog announcement is a link to the official Playstation Tournaments Discord Community Hub. It is an official place where players can connect with the competitive community. Additionally, this Discord server hosts interviews and game sessions with key figures in the esports community. A quick look at the role choices in this Discord indicates the availability of tournaments for Madden games and Apex Legends, in addition to other fighting games alongside the above titles.

The tournaments are open to all players, regardless of skill level. In addition to PlayStation console prizes and accessories, users can also win cash, in-game currency, and special collectibles just for participating in the tournament. New platform features, titles and events have also been teased, and Sony advises players to check the PS5 Control Center and Game Hub regularly to see upcoming tournament times.
