Augusta, Georgia — The No. 11 Texas men’s golf team recorded a team score of 4 under par on Saturday and placed fifth after the opening day of the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Club. Play for the second round was suspended due to darkness and will resume Sunday at 7:15 am Central (8:15 am Eastern) and the third and final round will be played immediately after the conclusion of the second round.

No. 12 Florida leads the team standings with 21 under par, while No. 19 Virginia and No. 5 Illinois share second place with 16 under par. Texas posted a 284 4-under in Saturday’s opening round and was level as a team until holes 10-12 of the second round when play was halted. The 15-team field includes six teams in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches poll (March 24).

A trio of Texas players finish 13th individually at 2 under par, including graduate brian starkstudent in the first year Christian Maas and newbie Jacob Sosa. Illinois’ Adrien Dumont de Chassart leads at 9-under, followed by a quartet at 7-under.

The preparation

  • student in the first year Christian Maas finishes 13th on 2-under par through 12 holes on his second round. Maas hit a 3-under par 69 on his opening round and made four non-bogey birdies on the back nine. He was 3-over through his first 10 holes on his second round before birdie-birdieing holes 14 and 15 (his last two holes were played on Saturday).
  • graduate brian stark finishes 13th on 2-under par through 12 holes on his second round. Stark registered a 1-under par 71 on his opening round and made three birdies against two bogeys. He was even on his first 11 holes of his second round before birdieing hole 15 (his last hole played on Saturday).
  • student in the first year Jacob Sosa is also tied for 13th place at 2-under par through 10 holes on his second round. Sosa recorded an even par 72 on his opening round. He was 1-over through his first eight holes before earning an eagle on hole 14 (par-4) and a birdie on hole 15 (his final two holes played on Saturday ) made.
  • student in the first year Tom Morrison is 36th on his second round with 2 over par through 11 holes. Morrison made five birdies and carded an even par 72 on his opening round.
  • Senior Travis Vick is 45th on his second round with 4 over par through 12 holes. Vick made five birdies and registered an even par 72 on his opening round.
