SEATTLE — The No. 1 University of Texas women’s tennis team (7-1) lost a 4-1 decision to No. 14 Iowa State (8-1) in a quarterfinal match of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship at Nordstrom Tennis on Saturday. Center. The loss resulted in a 19-game win streak in two for the Longhorns that stretches back to the 2022 season, when UT finished last year by winning their last 12 games and started this season by winning their first seven games.
With Saturday’s loss, the Longhorns will wrap up play in the ITA National Team Indoor Championship with a consolation round game against No. 15 Oklahoma on Sunday, February 12 at 11 a.m. Central (9 a.m. Pacific).
The Cyclones took a 1-0 lead with the double. The duo of Thasaporn Naklo and Anna Supapitch Kuearum achieved a 6-2 victory over the two newcomers in 1st place Nicole Chirin and jr Charlotte Chavatipon. The duo of Ange Oby Kajuru and Xinyl Nong secured the double with a 6-2 victory in second place against the junior duo Taisiya Pachkaleva and newbie Nicole Rivkin.
Texas tied the score 1-1, as the No. 113 graduate Marlee Zein recorded a 6-2, 6-2 win over Chie Kezuka in 6th place. Zein raced to a 4-1 cushion in her opening set en route to a 6-2 set win. She followed the exact same script in the second set to wrap up her straight-set win.
Iowa State responded by winning three straight singles games to end the overall win in doubles. No. 5 Sofia Cabezas recorded a 6-1, 6-4 win over Rivkin, and No. 53 Oby Kajuru followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 against No. 61 Chavatipon. No. 123 Miska Kadlecklova scored in a 6-3, 6-3 win over No. 69 junior in No. 4 Malaika Rapolu.
The remaining singles matches with Khirin (1st place) and No. 71 Zeynalova (3rd place) were interrupted after Kadlecklova’s victory. Khirin put on an impressive performance in her match against No. 42 Naklo as Khirin won the opening set 6-4 and held a 6-5 lead in the second set when play was halted. Zeynalova, who scored a 6-0 shutout in her opening set, faced a 3-1 deficit against Supapitch Kuearum in the decider as the aggregate score of the doubles match was decided.
