Niners drop the C-USA contest 4-0 to #37 UTSA

CHARLOTTE, NC- Despite forcing a total of five tiebreaks in the afternoon, the Charlotte men’s tennis team fell 4-0 on Sunday at the UTSA’s Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.

The loss is Charlotte’s (6-9) first-ever against UTSA (14-4) and will be the Niners’ only result in Conference USA play during regular doubles campaign.

The Roadrunners took the lead early after a dominant one-two in first place before battling past the older Niner duo of Abhimanyu Vannemreddy And Johnny Acosta7-6 (1), in second place to go into singles, with a 1-0 lead.

The Niners’ newcomer tandem Ivan Dreycopp And Aditya Narayanan was in the middle of a tiebreak when play was halted after winning the colon.

In singles play, the UTSA doubled and tripled their lead with straight-set wins in quick succession in fifth and first place.

The four remaining games all went to third sets, with the second-ranked Roadrunners going 4-0 on match point.

Dreycopp, Narayanan and Freshman Matias Iturbe were all serving in their respective third sets when play was halted.

Charlotte will take just under a week off before heading north next Saturday morning to take on Princeton in New Jersey. The first serve from the Lenz Tennis Center is scheduled for 10:00 am ET.
