Nicholas Cage makes his big and exciting debut as Dracula in Universal Pictures’ upcoming horror comedy Renfield, which looks like an explosion. When it was first announced that Cage would be playing the Dark Prince, fans were super excited and curious as to what he would bring to the character, and from what little we’ve seen so far, he’s going to put on a memorable performance.

Dracula isn’t the main character of this film, he’s more of a supporting character. But after getting a little taste of playing Dracula, Cage wants the opportunity to expand on that with his own Dracula movie so he can better explore the vampire psyche. Speaking to Total Film, he explained:

“You know, there are some little moments here where you can see some of the pathos in Dracula’s eyes. That made me think that maybe one day I’d like to do a whole movie where you really understand the psyche of the character. I didn’t really have time to go into that here.”

I have no doubt fans would love to see Cage get his own Dracula movie! Cage explained that he accepted the role of Dracula as a challenge for himself and because he’s a fan of other interpretations of the character that we’ve seen from the likes of over the years Christopher Lee, Frank Langella, Bel Lugosi And Gary Oldman. He said:

“I kind of always knew I had to do it at some point. I’ve come back to Christopher Lee for the way he speaks, but that was really just a starting point. I knew Christopher. I did a little scene with him in Season of the Witch and I really liked him. We had a lot of nice conversations and he reminded me a lot of my father August. From then on, my father became my main inspiration, so to speak.”

The film also has stars Nicholas Holt (Mad Max: Fury Road, X-Men franchise) as Dracula’s faithful servant, Renfield. Directed by Chris McKay (The Morning War, The LEGO Batman Movie) based on a screenplay by Ryan Ridley (spooky seriesRick & Morty Series), based on an original idea by the Walking Dead and invincible creator Robert Kirkman. Here is the summary:

Evil doesn’t last forever without a little help.

Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road, X-Men franchise) stars as Renfield, the tormented helper of history’s most narcissistic boss, Dracula (Oscar®-winner Nicolas Cage), in this modern-day monster tale of Dracula’s faithful minion. Renfield is forced to obtain his master’s loot and do whatever he pleases, no matter how humbled. But now, after centuries of servitude, Renfield is ready to see if there is life outside the shadow of the Prince of Darkness. If only he could figure out how to break codependency.

The film plays along Awkwafina (Farewell, Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Ben Black (Sonic the after party), And Adrian Martinez (The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Focus).

Renfeld hits theaters on April 14, 2023. Want to see Cage get his own Dracula movie?
