New Pokemon anime reveals possible Team Rocket replacement, among more characters

More details on the cast of the upcoming Pokemon anime have been revealed, including four new characters and a possible replacement for Team Rocket.
The Pokemon Company has been slowly giving fans more and more information about the next Pokemon anime, which will star two new protagonists named Liko and Roy.
Recently, fans learned about the new Pokémon Professor, who will make his debut in the anime along with his partner Pokémon Captain Pikachu. According to initial details, Professor Friede and Captain Pikachu will have their own team flying around on a giant airship.
The Pokemon Company has now given fans more details on the upcoming anime’s cast, including four new characters – two of whom may belong to the evil team that could replace the role of Team Rocket in the previous anime.

The Japanese Pokemon Twitter account Approved a short trailer dated March 17, 2023 announcing four new characters coming to the next anime series.

First, fans finally learned the name of the mystery man with two-toned hair who was teased in a previous trailer. The mysterious trainer is apparently named Amethyo, and he uses a Ceruledge as his partner Pokémon.

Besides Amethyo, fans were treated to designs of two other characters named Zir and Conia. Zir, the male trainer with the blonde mohican, uses a Rhydon while Conia, the female trainer, uses a Golduck.
According to information from the reliable Pokemon news source Seribii.net, Amethyo may just be the captain of the mysterious Explorers team that Zir and Conia are part of. Although Explorers are not directly stated to be an evil team, Zir and Conia’s designs certainly carry shadows of evil organizations in the past.

Considering the two are a male and female duo with matching uniforms and grittier designs, it wouldn’t be a surprise to learn that Zir and Conia are effectively filling the roles of Team Rocket’s Jessie and James.

The latest new character is a bit strange and still shrouded in mystery. The trailer shows an excerpt of a live stream with a character wearing a Nidorina onesie. According to early information, this character is a popular streamer named Gurumin, although little else is known about her.
While much of the information about these new characters is limited, it won’t be long before this next Pokemon anime series begins and fans will learn all about the new cast.
