Nacon RIG 300 Pro HC universal headset
Players have plenty to spend their money on. New consoles, new games, subscriptions, accessories – the list goes on. If there is an opportunity to get a decent product at a great price, then you can be sure that some will take advantage of this opportunity. Having a quality 3D audio headset with features like Dolby Atmos is a big deal for gamers. Enter the universal headset RIG 300 Pro HC from Nacon. This budget-friendly headset promises 3D audio at a great price. Does it deliver? Let’s have a look.
This is the first headset I’ve tested that requires you to attach the earcups to the frame. It’s very simple and gives you three different slots for three different head sizes. However, it’s not nearly as effective as the sliding mechanism that most headsets offer. If your head doesn’t fit snugly within these three different size options, the headset will feel a little loose or a little tight. Fortunately for me, the large size seemed to be sufficient.
To my surprise, the ear cups are surprisingly large, almost completely enclosing my large ears. This definitely helps maximize sound quality while drowning out outside noise. They’re not the most comfortable fabric, but not as bad as I’ve felt before. The frame is very light, which makes the entire headset feel pretty light – perfect for longer gaming sessions. Being wired means you don’t have to worry about charging either, which is a huge plus.
The headset has a flip-up microphone that offers crystal clear sound to those you are talking to on the internet. The microphone is unidirectional, so your friends are likely to hear your dog barking, your kid complaining, and your spouse nagging. Luckily, you probably won’t hear what you hear – the benefit of noise-cancelling headsets. On the 1.2 meter long cable you will find a mute switch and a volume control.
Dolby Atmos size
The RIG 300 Pro HC headset has a nice, balanced sound. I’m really surprised at the quality given the price. I played a variety of games; Call of Duty: Vanguard, Far Cry 5, Fortnite – they all sounded good and the 3D audio seemed pretty accurate. The headset is Dolby Atmos compatible, giving you the best possible audio experience on a PC or Xbox. You also get a 1-year subscription to Dolby Atmos in the headset box. To me, that’s a big bonus for a budget headset.
Despite my praise for this headset, I’ve encountered a problem. Unfortunately, I’m not 100% convinced that it’s a headset issue – so I’m mentioning this as an additional note and not as something that affects the overall score. Whenever I used this headset while playing Call of Duty: Vanguard, my controller would frequently disconnect. I have done everything to solve the problem; Hard reset, new batteries in controller, plug in controller and completely reinstall Vanguard. Hell, I even bought a brand new controller. Nothing fixed it. Then I realized it was only when this headset was plugged in. However, it didn’t do this in any other game. So, is it the headset or is it just something to do with Vanguard? Let’s face it, Vanguard has a lot of issues with this – so it’s not outside the realm of possibility of having a compatibility issue with certain headsets, although it’s odd. Consider this a tale of caution rather than a mild rejection of this headset.
The RIG 300 Pro HC headset from Nacon comes at a low price but with high-end features. While technically there’s no noise-cancelling tech, the earcups are large enough that they should cup most gamers’ ears, essentially providing working noise-cancelling tech. 3D audio with Dolby Atmos support is a huge must-have for any gamer, and the fact that even budget-conscious consumers can now get this is great to see. The headset isn’t the most comfortable I’ve ever used. I would have preferred if they offered a sliding frame as opposed to three earcup slots for size adjustment. I’m also a bit concerned after my issues with Call of Duty: Vanguard – I really hope other games experience the same controller disconnection issue when using this headset. All in all though, this is a brilliant headset for gamers on a budget looking for quality sound.
