Netflix recently released a new trailer for its latest spin-off, Money Heist: Korea – Common Economic Space. The new series will take the lead from its illustrious predecessor, money robberya show that failed horribly in its native Spain until Netflix bought it and became an international success.
money robbery became so popular not only because everyone loves a good heist movie, but because it took traditional tropes of the genre and made something surprising out of it. The heist portion of the series is aided by its three-dimensional characters and intense drama that fills in what would otherwise be just a story ocean 11 in Spain. His narrative also takes the regular heist plot and reinforces it, turning a single heist into a total, V for Vendetta-class struggle.
money robbery had reasonable success in English-speaking countries despite being filmed in Spanish. Netflix also added two documentaries about the show – Money Heist: From Tokyo to Berlin and Money Heist: The Phenomenon. Now, it seems that Netflix is looking to take another bite of the apple after the original series ends in 2021 Money heist: Korea.
The series is expected to be a huge hit considering the data indicates a massive surge in TV and film consumption in Korea. And with the success of shows like Squid Gamethis new version of money robbery aims to be the next great creative Korean drama.
Money Heist: Korea: The plot
The series is set in a fictional world where North Korea and South Korea have reached an agreement. The two countries erased their border and joined forces to create the title common economic space. Along with agreeing to economic cooperation, nations have created a single unified currency for people to use.
But instead of everything being made of wine and roses, there wasn’t as much prosperity as people thought. As the trailer puts it, “When the North opened up, we thought everyone would benefit. But really, only the rich got richer.” The show truthfully portrays its anti-capitalist foundation money robbery Fashion.
The plot for Money Heist: Korea – Common Economic Space is as follows:
“A brilliant strategist and his talented crew of high-profile thieves try to pull off an unprecedented heist on the Korean Peninsula. The story takes unexpected twists and turns as the crew orchestrate a hostage while facing inexplicable challenges. All eyes are on the background and definition behind the title common economic space.”
But a little more about the plot can be told. The raid in question will take place at the Inter-Korea Mint, and a team of cooperative Nationalist security forces will be among those attempting to thwart our heroes.
Author Ryu Yong-Jae, a big fan of the original Spanish series, spoke to Variety about how this storyline will differ from the previous series. He explained:
“I was intrigued by the premise of the remake because it’s not just about the conflict between robbers and police, but also adds new layers of tension, mistrust and harmony between North and South Korea. [It is] a situation where thieves from North and South Korea are ganging up and police from North and South are ganging up to block their way, [adding] a Korean lens to the original IP.”
Money Heist: Korea: The occupation
Many popular roles from the original series will be starring in the new show. So characters in the show will share the titles of previous characters like Tokyo, Berlin and The Professor, but a new cast of Korean actors will take over the Spanish cast.
Footage has been released of the crew standing, wearing the familiar red overalls and masks. But the masks do not bear the caricature face of Salvador Dalí, but rather traditional Korean hahoe masks. They are an excellent culture change and have the same effect as the Dali masks in helping the crew project anonymity, national identity and fear.
Yoo Ji-Tae, known for his performance in old boy, will play the professor. Most notable is Park Hae-Soo, a veteran of Korean dramas Squid GameHe will play against Berlin. And Jeon Jong-seo will be Tokyo. Yunjin Kim out Lost will play Seon Woojin. Lee Si-woo will play Ann. And Anzu Lawson out Blacklist and NCIS will play Ann’s mother. Park Myung-hoon parasite will play Cho Youngmin. Kim Ji-hoon will play against Denver. Hyun-Woo Lee will play Rio. Won-jong Lee will be Moscow. Voice’s Ji-Hoon Kim will play Helsinki. Kyu-Ho Lee will play against Oslo. Jang Yoon-ju will play against Nairobi. Kim Sung-oh will play Cha Moohyuk. And Joo-Bin Lee will play Youn Misun.
While more than a few household names are in the United States, all of the actors have proven themselves in Korean films and TV dramas, and will no doubt bring the intense thrills and wild dramatic suspense we’ve all come to expect from the show.
