Michigan police are giving out turkeys on Thanksgiving to ‘alleviate some financial stress’ during the holidays.

In honor of Thanksgiving 2022, law enforcement is helping residents complete their Thanksgiving dinner by giving out free turkeys.

With inflation impacting the holiday season this year, officers at Michigan’s Jackson Police Department are doing what they can to help their community.

On Wednesday, November 16, hundreds of people waited in hopes of receiving a free turkey for their Thanksgiving celebration.

They expired in less than an hour.

“It’s not just our community. It’s all communities. We know the need is there and it’s not much, but we’ve tried to do what we can,” Cheryl Ragland, coordinator of Jackson’s violence intervention group, told Fox 47.

Ragland continued: “150 turkeys went really fast but next [year] there will definitely be more.”

“With the rising cost of food for families, we hope this will also ease the financial strain during the holiday season,” Ragland told Fox 47.

The Jackson Police Department isn’t the only ones giving back this holiday season.

This week in Windsor, Connecticut, police officers cooked Thanksgiving meals that were delivered to dozens of people.

And in 2021, the Mesa Police Department in Mesa, Arizona, surprised drivers by stopping them only to give them frozen turkeys instead of tickets.
