Media Cricket Club Jammu defeats RPHQ J&K Police-XI in exhibition match – Statetimes

JAMMU: Media Cricket Club Jammu defeated RPHQ J&K Police XI by eight wickets in an exhibition match played here on campus on Sunday.
The match and ongoing tournament will be organized under the supervision of Shakti Kumar Pathak, DIG Jammu, Samba, Kathua Range.
SSP RK Katoch captain of RPHQ XI won the draw and opted to bat first, but his decision soon backfired as Arpit came down cheap on 5 runs. Anil and Kishore tried to consolidate the innings but clever bowling changes from Vivek Suri (captain of Media Cricket Club Jammu) kept runs under control and RPHQ XI scored 102 runs in the prescribed 16 overs for the loss of eight wickets. Kishore scored 36 and Anil 19 for the team. Jammu, Vivek Suri, Faheem, Ashish, Naseer and Rohit each snatched a wicket for Media Cricket Club. Vivek Suri was brilliant on the field and was instrumental in two runouts.
Media Cricket Club Jammu chased 103 runs in 16 overs and lost in the form of vice-captain Amit Kumar in 2 runs but Rajesh Dutt and Naseer played reasonably before Naseer fell out in 20 runs. The RPHQ XI bowlers tried to get in, but Rajesh and Faheem turned the strike and kept the run rate under control.
The two shared 59 unbeaten runs and chased the target in 15.1 overs, winning the match by 8 wickets. Faheem hit 33 runs and Rajesh Dutt hit 31 runs for MCC. For RPHQ XI, Deepak and Arpit each claimed a wicket.
SSP Rajinder Katoch, staff officer of the DIG JKS area, said that as part of the citizen action program, such tournaments are organized by the J&K police to get youth involved in sports activities and away from drugs.
He congratulated Media Cricket Club Jammu on winning the match, which was played in a very warm atmosphere.
