Max Verstappen’s wife: What does Max Verstappen think about starting a family with Kelly Piquet?

Max Verstappen is one of the biggest stars in Formula 1 today and a lot of credit goes to his father Jos. The latter made it his life’s work to help his son reach the top of Formula 1 and he fulfilled his dream as Max won two world championships in 2021 and 2022.

Verstappen Sr.’s parenting methods made his son the driver he is today, but not many fans appreciate them. Many feel that Verstappen was treated very harshly as a child, with some even going so far as to suggest that he was abused as a child.

There are stories like Verstappen’s father leaving him alone at an abandoned gas station for hours because he didn’t win a kart race. Verstappen insists the way his father treated him was important in shaping his career and future, but also admits his childhood was difficult.

Verstappen, who is currently in a relationship with Kelly Piquet, intends to have children of his own one day. In fact, he will also work hard to help them become F1 drivers if that’s what they want. However, the Red Bull ace revealed he will adopt a different style of upbringing compared to his father Jos.

How does Max Verstappen want to raise his children?

Verstappen’s partner Kelly Piquet used to be in a relationship with ex-Red Bull driver Daniil Kvyat. Piquet had a son with the Russian, whom she now takes care of together with Verstappen. The Dutch driver admitted to the Dutch newspaper The Limburger that he would like to have children in the future and if they want to be F1 drivers then he is ok with that.

However, Verstappen also added that he would “handle things differently” and hinted that he doesn’t want to be as hard on his children as his father was on him. The 25-year-old knows Jos’s upbringing made him a two-time F1 world champion, but he wants his children to have a fun childhood, which is probably why he wants to do things his way.

“I definitely want kids and if they want to race, that’s fine,” he said. “I think I would do it differently than my dad and I used to do.”

When does Verstappen plan to start a family with Kelly Piquet?

Verstappen and Piquet have been together for a long time and the former admitted they plan to start a family of their own soon. Verstappen doesn’t know when he will have children of his own but acknowledged he might feel differently about his parenting choices once he has them.

Regardless, Verstappen said he won’t be as focused on his kids’ racing careers as his dad Jos. He will not force them to fall in love with racing and will only support them if they enjoy it themselves.
