The start of the 22-23 season kicks off tonight as the Mavs kick off their preseason with a trip to OKC. Even though it’s just a pre-season game, the excitement is still in the air. We get a first look at the newly structured team and what the young people will bring to this team. The new season also means we can bet on the Mavericks again! Let’s take a look at the odds and props intriguing for this first matchup of the year.
Match: Dallas Mavericks vs. OKC Thunder | NBA Preseason 2022-2023
Date and time: Wednesday 5 Octoberth, 2022; 7:00 p.m. CST
Venue: BOK Center, Tulsa, OK.
Spread: Outsiders -6.0
Current odds as of 1pm CST from Caesar’s
With Luka Doncic, Maxi Kleber, Javale McGee, Davis Bertans and Tim Hardaway, the opportunity for others to impress is already ruled out. Is Josh Green living up to the camp hype? Will Hardy prove he deserves to be a regular part of the rotation? Perhaps the biggest question we have is Christian Wood and how he will fit into his new home. These preseason games will shed some light on those questions as we get closer to October 19thth Season opener against the Suns.
Advice: Preseason betting can be difficult given the uncertainty of player minutes. So far this preseason, we’ve seen other teams’ starters coming in between 10 and 25 minutes. I expect to see a good sample size of the youngsters tonight that makes the Mavs -6 look a little high to me. OKC earns a preseason win over the Nuggets where Jokic and the other starters conceded a good 15 minutes. I’m leaning towards Thunder +6 as the game is meant to be a fun, competitive game. Now for my player props folks out there, let’s look at a few props that stand out.
Jaden Hardy: 9.5 points
I see this game as a showcase for the kid, he should see a healthy number of minutes and the shot attempts will be there. I think he hits that mark easily provided he has a decent night of shooting.
Tre Mann: 12.5 points
Assuming his minutes are similar to their first preseason game, that’s another prop I could easily hit. Mann led the team in shot attempts 6-11 and posted a solid 17 against Denver.
The first few games can be a little rusty for teams as OKC already have a game under their belt making sure they are in a better flow early on. It will be interesting to see how the chemistry develops with the new guys as we progress through camp and these preseason games. Next up, the Mavs play their only home game of the preseason this Friday against the Magic.
