Manly Warringah infallible in the Club Championship campaign

Manly Warringah District Cricket Club have secured the 2022/23 NSW Premier Cricket Men’s Club Championship title after achieving a top three result in each of the five classes.
It was a historic season for the Northern Beaches club, claiming minor premierships in the second, third and fifth grades and taking two and three spots at the top in the first and third grades respectively.
Featuring a number of representative elite cricket talent (Mickey Edwards, Jack Edwards, Ollie Davies, Joel Davies, Ryan Hadley, Stephen O’Keefe and Jay Lenton) in both Sydney BBL sides, the NSW Blues setup as well as a host of national and international junior competitions meant Manly’s team rotation strategy had to be strong to remain consistently dominant.
Manly Warringah’s Men’s Ranking:
The Waratahs’ overall success this season is reflected in the latest Club Championship standings, which put them at 1,566 points, exactly 175 points ahead of second-placed Parramatta. For comparison: the gap between second and fifth place is 163 points.
Andrew Fraser, Honorary President of Manly Warringah, was very proud when asked what this achievement means for the club’s players, coaches and fans.
“It’s huge as it’s a very difficult trophy to win.” said Frazer.
“It’s an achievement the whole club should be very proud of as it takes a real collective effort from everyone to win a club championship. It’s also something that everyone in the club can enjoy.”
Fraser was keen to mention the driving force behind the club’s record success this season.
“The success of the club championship this season was something very special and a very emotional victory for our club. Many players set the goal early in the season to honor the late Michael “Juice” Shepheard [1st grade team manager] who passed away suddenly last year.”
“We all felt Juice with us during the celebrations last Saturday night – maybe 2022/23 should just be our year!”
Fraser spoke about what enhances the club’s success on the pitch and paid tribute to the many leaders in the Manly playing group.
“Success like this cannot be achieved without good leadership. From our coaching staff to our captains to our board of directors, we are fortunate to have some incredible leaders.”
When asked about the culture at Manly Warringah Cricket Club, Fraser had this to say:
“We have developed wonderful relationships with everyone involved in the Manly Warringah cricket community. They are all part of what we call the male cricket ‘family’.”
“The development of young players into good people is just as important as their cricket development. It starts with our Green Shield program and ends with the grades.”
