LEWIS HAMILTON fears fans may start turning off F1 if it gets too boring.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez have dominated the first four races of this season, with the last Grand Prix in Azerbaijan being a dull procession.

The sport arrived here in Miami accused of losing its appeal due to predictable winners.

And Hamilton – who qualified 13th in Miami – says he sympathizes with TV viewers and insists teams must adapt to the new rules or warns it could be YEARS before anyone else does title wins.

He said: “It’s not my job to convince people to watch a sport. I don’t watch, so I don’t get bored.

“I’m challenged every day to get back to the top, so it definitely doesn’t get boring from my point of view.

“But as a racing fan, I can understand that there isn’t as much competition at the moment as there might be in the NFL or the NBA.

“That’s not my thing. As a sport, they’ve tried to bring teams closer together, but it never seems to work.

“All I can say is we are working as hard as we can to catch up and come back and give them more fighting.

“It’s good that we’re trying new things. It is important that we keep moving forward and evolving.

“It’s just unfortunate that we’re still seeing the same kind of gaps between teams.

“I don’t know what the solution is for the future. But we will have to adapt to these regulations.

“Otherwise it could have been like this for years.”

Meanwhile, Hamilton says he supports F1’s decision to race in new locations but believes it shouldn’t come at the expense of historic circuits.

The F1 calendar is currently limited to 24 races and there will be a new Las Vegas GP later in the year.

Grands Prix in South Africa, South Korea and a second race in Saudi Arabia are all in the pipeline and Hamilton says balance is key to a successful championship.

He added: “I like the direction Formula 1 is going. I have been here for a long time.

“I like the change we’re seeing and it’s exciting to be able to come to different parts of the world.

“We’ve flown to all the other continents, so I hope we’ll get to Africa soon. And that will be a great experience.

“But I love all the older tracks, they will always be the ones I prefer.

“It’s important that we continue to have these in our DNA – so a balance between the two.”
