Knights blank Willits 5-0 in tennis – Lake County Record-Bee

KELSEYVILLE — The Kelseyville Knights pulled off a clean win, dropping just one set on Friday as they beat the Willits Wolverines 5-0 in Coastal Mountain Conference tennis action on the courts of Gard Street in Kelseyville.
In singles, Rylan Lipscomb defeated Harley Lukenbill 6-0, 6-0 in the first singles while Evan Weller defeated Dacian O’Malley 6-4, 6-3 in the second singles. The No. 3 singles match went the distance, with Kelseyville’s Peyton Morris rallying to beat Isaiah Garcia 2-6, 6-4, 10-8 in the tiebreak of the third set.
“Winning a match after losing the first set builds a lot of confidence and shows you have to fight to the end even if you’re out early,” Kelseyville head coach Andy Dobusch said of the win Morris.
In doubles, Kelseyville’s No. 1 team of Riley Lopez and Jesse Barnett beat Jade Arbayo and Salisa Leon 6-3, 6-1. Maddy Borghesani and Olivia Hommer defeated Alemon Velasco and Milli Patino 6-1, 6-1 in the second doubles.
“These children do a great job under difficult circumstances,” said Dobusch. It was difficult to train with the weather and we had several players (and coaches) unavailable for games but they are 2-0 and getting better every day.
Kelseyville heads out to play Middletown on Tuesday.
“I’m looking forward to this duel,” said Dobusch. “Middletown usually puts together a strong team. Hopefully we are in full force but as we have shown we will be ready.”
