KKD: 5G network service offered in Malaysia, currently priced at RM1.68 per GB

Speaking to Parliament on Monday (March 13, 2023), Nie Ching clarified that Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB), the entity in charge of Malaysia’s 5G network development, has a reference cost offer of RM30,000 per Gbps per month, or 13 Sen per GB implements. Therefore, KKD believes that expanding 5G network coverage can further lower prices for consumers.

The KKD Deputy Minister added that the current implementation rate of 5G services is 54.7 percent. In addition, the ministry is confident that its 80 percent coverage of populated areas can be achieved by the end of the year.

Nie Ching claimed that the price of basic internet data, calls and SMS in Malaysia is currently the third cheapest in the ASEAN region, behind Singapore and Brunei. As for 5G services, service providers are adopting a neutral technology concept for now by offering prices without distinction between 5G and 4G services.
