Kansas City has the fifth-biggest homicide problem, according to the report

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – A new report has found that Kansas City has the fifth-biggest homicide problem nationwide in the final quarter of 2022.

As homicide rates in 45 of the country’s largest cities fell about 7% in the fourth quarter of 2021 and 2022, personal finance website WalletHub.com released its report Tuesday on the cities with the biggest homicide rate problems. January 24th.

To find out which cities have the biggest problems with homicide, WalletHub says it compared 45 of the country’s largest cities based on homicides per capita in the fourth quarter of 2022 and the same rates in the same quarters of 2021 and 2020.

According to the report, Kansas City is the city with the fifth highest homicide rate with an overall score of 65.37. In the fourth quarter of 2022 there were almost 8 homicides per 100,000 population. That’s a 2.19 change from 2021 and a -0.99 change from 2020.

To the west, Denver and Colorado Springs proved almost as dangerous. The Mile High City placed 10th overall with a total score of 48.34. In the fourth quarter of 2022, there were just over 3 homicides per 100,000 people. There was no change from 2021 and a 0.85 change from 2020. Colorado Springs placed 11th overall with a total score of 46.35. In the last quarter of 2022, there were nearly 3 homicides per 100,000 population, the same as in 2021 and a change of 0.63 from 2020.

In the east, St. Louis finished 12th overall with a total score of 45.23. It had more than 12 homicides per 100,000 population, representing a -5.61 change from 2021 and a -6.28 change from 2020.

In the North, Omaha placed 26th overall with a total score of 37.66. There was more than one homicide per 100,000 population, a change of -0.2 from 2021 and the same as 2020.

Oklahoma City in the South finished 27th overall with a total score of 37.31. There were just over two homicides per 100,000 population, representing a -0.15 change from 2021 and a -0.89 change from 2020.

Eventually, Lincoln finished 38th overall with an overall score of 33.2. There was less than one homicide per 100,000 people, a change of -0.35 from 2021 and the same as 2020.

The report found that St. Louis had the second highest homicide rate per capita while Lincoln had the third lowest. It also found that as of 2021, Kansas City had the second-highest increase in homicides, while St. Louis had the lowest increase. Finally, it was noted that Denver recorded the third-highest rise in homicides since 2020, while St. Louis tied New Orleans for the lowest rise.

According to the report, the cities with the biggest homicide problems are:

  1. Atlanta
  2. Baltimore
  3. Detroit
  4. Las Vegas
  5. Kansas City

The cities with the lowest homicide rates were:

  1. St. Petersburg, Fla.
  2. Dallas
  3. fort worth
  4. Anchorage
  5. Scottdale, Az.
