What does Jon Bernthal’s Punisher return mean for Daredevil: Born Again?

Daredevil: Reborn has a different mission than most MCU series, which either focused on minor heroes or introduced entirely new characters to the MCU. Marvel Studios is on a mission to honor Netflix daredevil series and reborn will pay off teasing a Punisher. After debuting in Season 2 of Netflix daredevilFrank Castle would end his time on the series by saying in the season finale: “See you Red.” However, the two characters never interacted again on Netflix defender universe, a mistake that Marvel will now correct Daredevil: Reborn.

Featuring Bernthal’s return as the Punisher Daredevil: Reborn Guaranteed, there’s a strong possibility that other Netflix Marvel heroes could find their way into the Cox-led series next year. Daredevil: Reborn received an unprecedented 18-episode order from Disney+, making it by far the longest MCU series on the streamer. The new Daredevil show could feature MCU cameos as Star Cox has made it clear that he would be interested in connecting with other MCU characters and the long episode order allows for more Netflix heroes to make the jump to the MCU .

While Cox has said in interviews that he believes Daredevil: Reborn won’t be as somber as the Netflix series, the announcement that Bernthal will be returning as the Punisher in the Disney+ series should give hope to those who wanted the new show to have a similar tone to Netflix’s daredevil. Bernthal has disclosed in the past that he would only return to the role if it weren’t for a watered down version of the Punisher, which bodes well for a darker tone. Whether Punisher is a villain in Daredevil: Reborn or acting more heroically, it can help with that more mature tone.
