The excellent John Wick: Chapter 4 got off to a rocking start at the domestic and global box office this weekend. Domestically, the action sequel grossed a whopping $73.5 million, while the international total is a staggering $64 million – both franchise bests – for worldwide grossing of $137.5 million. As of deadline, this marks Keanu Reeves’ second-best domestic live-action opening behind that of 2003 Matrix Reloaded ($91.7 million in 2003) and second-best worldwide debut behind only The Matrix Revolutionin 2003 $201.4 million.

Wick also picked up Halloween kills $49.4 million opening to become biggest post-pandemic R-rated debut. Viewers flocked to see the action epic on Imax, which grossed a whopping $12.7 million worldwide. Also of note is that this is only the fifth time in 40 years that a fourth installment has set a franchise record in its opening weekend.

On a not so positive note, Shazam! wrath of the gods is down 68% in week 2 and has raised just $9.7 million for a total of $46.3 million domestically. Ouch. scream VI ranked third with $8.4 million (-52%) and has earned $89.9 million domestically Creed III snagged another $8.36 million to bring his domestic total to $140.88 million.

Also for those keeping count, James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water rose to No. 7 on the All-Time Domestic Box Office chart and overtook Avengers: Infinity War $678 million, $20 million behind Black Panther ($700 million). The sequel is #3 worldwide with $2.3 billion.
