Jim Carrey lists his longtime LA mansion for $28.9 million

Smoking! Jim Carrey lists his spectacular LA mansion for $28.9 million
With its tennis court, custom art deco theater and yoga pavilion, Jim Carrey’s luxe estate is seriously chic.
After nearly three decades, the 61-year-old star is giving up the 12,704-square-foot home he bought in 1994 for about $3.8 million.
The chic pad was built in 1951 in Brentwood, an upscale neighborhood of Los Angeles. Its list price of $28,900,000 makes it the fifth most expensive home for sale in the community.
“This home provides an environment for those who want to enjoy sophisticated entertainment or…plenty of space for children to play and explore in a magical setting,” says listing agent Janelle Friedmanby Sotheby’s International Realty-Santa Monica-Venice Brokerage.
A 280 foot gated frontage offers plenty of privacy. Five bedrooms, six full baths, and three half-baths fill the mostly single-story ranch home, which has only the movie theater and gym on separate levels.
The sprawling home also reportedly doubles as a showcase for some of the artwork Carrey has created over the years.
Great cinema
The home’s custom cinema is a real highlight.
It’s “as impressive as Hollywood’s famed movie palaces, with mohair-upholstered sofas, burl columns, and a snack area and lavish marble bathroom,” says Friedman of the theater, which was renovated during the star’s tenure.
Costumes from some of the comedian’s films are displayed in glass cases, and the bar features other film memorabilia.
It’s the perfect spot to see a Carrey classic. “The Truman Show,” anyone?
A retreat at home
The property’s resort-like aura emanates from its pool house, gazebo, waterfall pool, and spa, as well as a platform for yoga and meditation.
A mature vegetable garden puts vine-ripened tomatoes within reach. And the owner’s suite offers a tranquil scene with its bay window, covered balcony, sitting area and fireplace.
The wood paneled primary bath also features a fireplace, stained glass windows and a soaking tub.
In fact, all bedrooms are en-suite, perfect for accommodating overnight guests or for a family spreading out.

Even though the house is more than half a century old, it still feels current. It features brick and hardwood floors, lots of natural light, and five fireplaces.
This home is entertaining, too, thanks to a chef’s kitchen with ample cabinetry and high-end appliances. There’s even an indoor BBQ area.
In several parts of the house, glass doors open onto a large courtyard. The property also includes a three car garage and lush growing areas.
“Having two green acres dotted with mature trees; large, grassy areas; and meandering trails are a rare and valuable commodity,” says Friedman.
She believes the area’s reputation will attract a wealthy buyer who values privacy.
“Brentwood is one of the top neighborhoods in Los Angeles,” notes Friedman. “It’s just far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the city, yet easily accessible to everywhere from downtown to the beach.”
Born in Canada, Carrey rose to fame on the television sketch comedy show In Living Color in the 1990s.
The award-winning actor has starred in dozens of films including The Cable Guy, Dumb and Dumber, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask and Man on the Moon.
