After several stops and starts, it looks like the fight between Jake Paul and Tommy Fury is finally happening.
Both Jake Paul andofficially announced the news via social media.
The fight is to take place in New York City at Madison Square Garden on August 6th and is co-directed by Amanda Serrano and Brenda Carabajal. Tickets go on sale June 29 at 11am EST.
Fury was set to be Paul’s opponent in his final fight, which was set to take place in December. Fury was forced out after breaking a rib and was replaced by former UFC champion Tyron Woodley.
This fight was a repeat of a previous fight between the two. Paul put an exclamation mark on their second meeting, knocking out Woodley in spectacular fashion in the sixth round.
But ever since – and before that – people have been begging Paul to fight a “real” boxer. Up until this point, Paul was facing a mix of YouTubers and ex-MMA fighters. An up-and-coming 8-0 fighter, Fury is designed to be a “real” boxer and will most likely represent Paul’s toughest test in the ring yet.
Who is Tommy Fury?
Fury is a young professional boxer with a famous last name. He is the half brother of the current Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury. He is also famous in the UK for starring in Love Island, a reality TV show in which the contestants have to team up in order not to be eliminated. The show is huge in the UK.
Who is Jake Paul?
You probably know Paul, the social media personality who first made it big on Vine before branching out to all platforms in existence. He has transitioned into boxing in recent years after fighting on the undercard of brother Logan Paul’s viral boxing match with British YouTuber KSI. He showed a talent for boxing and has been fighting ever since.
Paul has also moved up the ranks and co-organized a major fight between Irish Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano which was one of the greatest female boxing matches of all time.
Paul seems to understand public perceptions of his boxing career and posted a rather confident (and funny) TikTok about his upcoming fight with Fury.
you pushed me into it… not cool.
