In order to invite friends to Minecraft Dungeons, you must go to the main menu – aka the hero selection screen – and then follow the prompt in the bottom left corner of the screen to set your session to play online. If you then choose to play online, you’ll see a list of any game sessions already running that you can join, along with a list of friends you can invite to join you.

If you don’t have anyone nearby that you want to connect with yet, you can select Start Online Game to start alone, with the added option of making it a private game if you don’t want them to join you someone joins without an invitation. Once in-game, you can follow the Friends prompt in the top-right corner of the screen to return to the same online menu, invite friends to Minecraft Dungeons, or join a different session. Note that to access the in-game menu, you must have started an online game from the main menu, because if you choose to play offline instead, the only options you’ll see in the friends menu are the for local multiplayer.

Some players have reported issues when trying to invite friends to Minecraft Dungeons before completing the first tutorial mission. So if you haven’t done this and reached the Minecraft Dungeons camp for the first time, you may need to play through it for the invites to work properly. The tutorial doesn’t take long and gives you a good introduction to the game, so it’s definitely worth it!
