Highly anticipated action sequels coming in 2023

Movie sequels are not only an opportunity for a franchise to grow, but also for fans to follow character development on the big screen rather than a television series. Yet they often meet them with mixed feelings: excitement, concern, joy, disappointment, or even anger. While some chapters spoiled the first part, others are considered better than the original.

Blockbuster franchise fans are extremely excited about these five adrenaline-pumping sequels coming in 2023. Whether it’s stylized violence, sci-fi, animated adventure or historical fiction, the following action films are expected to attract cinema audiences on a global scale.

Here they are in chronological order of release date.

John Wick: Chapter 4 – March 24th

Keanu Reeves may have a reputation for being one of the nicest and quietest guys in Hollywood, but he’ll soon be making his way in style again as the intense and legendary hit man John Wick, alongside recurring characters Laurence Fishburne as Bowery King and Ian McShane as Winston Scott, along with newcomers Bill Skarsgård as the mysterious Marquis and Donnie Yen as Caine.

According to Total Film magazine, Reeves dubbed it John Wick: Chapter 4 Cast his “toughest physical role ever” under the masterful eye of franchise director and stunt coordinator Chad Stahelski. This time, Wick will dodge The High Table in five different countries, from Osaka to Paris. The film is expected to run for 2 hours and 49 minutes, making it the franchise’s longest entry to date.

“The toughest physical role I’ve ever had in my career so far. They really trained me to have what we call the tool box.”

Fans are also anticipating the release of the prequel miniseries Peacock and Prime Video The Continental, produced by Lionsgate Television. Set in 1970s New York, the story focuses on a much younger Winston (Colin Woodell) navigating the complexities of the criminal underworld.

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 – May 5th

Intergalactic posse members Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket (Sean Gunn), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), and Groot (Van Diesel) face the perils of yet another space mission in the franchise’s finale opposite movie. Directed by James Gunn and scored by John Murphy, Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3 will be set after the events of Avengers: Endgame and hits theaters this May.

Fans had been wondering if they would see Gamora (Zoë Saldaña) again until her return (albeit with amnesia and working with bounty hunters) was confirmed during a Marvel panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2022.

Almost X – May 19th

The penultimate entry in the Fast & Furious world is slated to hit theaters this May, two years later F9. It is directed by Louis Leterrier, who was hired due to his work on the vans Films shortly after writer/director Justin Lin decided to step down. Fast Xalso known Fast & Furious 10features another impressive ensemble cast: Vin Diesel, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Michelle Rodriguez, Sung Kang, Ludacris, Jason Momoa, John Cena, Jason Statham (the original vans), Rita Moreno, Helen Mirren, Brie Larson and Charlize Theron.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse – June 2nd

MCU enthusiasts are looking forward to the release of the Sony-distributed sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Versewhich will more or less coincide with the release of another Marvel comic. Edge of Spider verse in comic stores.

Jake Johnson, Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Oscar Isaac and Issa Rae will voice the characters of Peter Parker, Mike Morales, Gwen Stacy, Miguel O’Hara and Jessica Drew respectively.

According to Sony Pictures official premise:

“Miles Morales returns for the next chapter in the Oscar-winning Spider-Verse saga, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s friendly full-time neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted through the multiverse. where he encounters a team of Spider-People tasked with protecting his existence. But when the heroes clash over how to deal with a new threat, Miles faces the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero. so he can save the people he loves most.”

The sequel to the award-winning 2018 Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has six different animated styles as it is set in six dimensions of the multiverse and is yet to come Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Versewhich is scheduled for March 29, 2024.

Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny – June 30th

15 years after Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Harrison Ford reprises his role as legendary archaeologist in one final film. Directed by James Mangold, with franchise creator George Lucas and director Steven Spielberg as executive producers, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny With Phoebe Waller-Bridge as Jones’ goddaughter Helena, John Rhys-Davies as his good friend Sallah and Mads Mikkelsen as ex-Nazi villain Voller.

Audiences look forward to the stunning, seamless digital de-aging process performed on the 80-year-old Ford for a believable young Indy. Visual effects studio Industrial Light and Magic was tasked with this delicate task, matching real archive footage of a younger Ford with newly shot scenes.
