The latest wave of gaming laptops has hit the (virtual) shelves, and it’s now possible to pick up an RTX 4060 gaming laptop for a little over a grand.
The Asus Tuf A15 is down to £1099 on Amazon, great value for a machine sporting the aforementioned GPU with a TDP of up to 140W, a Ryzen 7735HS CPU, 16GB DDR5 RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD and includes a 15-inch 1080p 144Hz IPS display and a 90Wh battery with fast charging.
It’s a strong spec sheet for sure, but there’s more to like about this Asus laptop. The port selection is excellent, with HDMI 2.1, Thunderbolt 4, USB-C, two USB-A, a headphone jack, Gigabit Ethernet and a power-in connector. There’s also a webcam at the top, something Asus has been going through for a while not inclusive, so that’s handy, which has become kind of a new norm with all this work-from-home business.
The durable body also meets US/UK military specifications for drop, shock and temperature resistance, which is a nice touch for any machine used on the go. I also like the design of the machine, which isn’t overly playful, especially when you set the single-zone RGB backlit keyboard to white, with more subtle indicators like mech-inspired motifs on the keyboard tray. Speaking of which, you’re getting a full UK layout here, with a number pad and a good-sized Windows Precision trackpad underneath.
I’m sure we’ll be seeing bigger reductions on RTX 40 series laptops in a few months, but for now the new generation is already offering a nice performance boost over what was available for a similar price point this time last year.
