Gauhati Press Club Wins TOPCEM-ASJA T20 Cricket Title

Gauhati Press Club won the TOPCEM-ASJA Inter-Media T20 Cricket Championships at Nehru Stadium in Guwahati on March 19.

They beat Media Management by 8 runs in a thriller of a final shortened to 10-over-a-side due to inclement weather.

Media Management won the toss and chose the field. With the help of Mriganka Jyoti Sarma’s 31 carries from 18 balls and Raj Hussain’s undefeated 32 from 28 balls, Gauhati Press Club scored 88/2 in 10 overs.

Monoj Duwarah picked up a wicket.

In response, Media Management managed 80/6 in 10 overs. Amit Das scored 33 balls from 22 while Abudin Khan contributed 19. But their efforts were not enough to overcome the goal.

Mausam Dutta recorded 2 wickets for 12 runs.

Brief results: Gauhati Press Club 88/2 (Raj Hussain 32 not outside, Mriganka Jyoti Sarma 31; Monoj Duwarah 1/17). Media Management 80/6 (Amit Das 33, Abudin Khan 19, Saurav Nath 16; Mausam Dutta 2/12).

Individual awards:

Best Batsman: Tauhid Ali Talukdar (ASJA); Best Bowler: Manoj Duwarah (Media Management); Best Fielder: Rahul Amin (Guwahati Press Club); Player of the Tournament: Abudin Khan (Media Management); Player of the finals: Mriganka Jyoti Sarma.

The final was followed by the award ceremonies of the cricket tournament and the TOPCEM-ASJA media Sports Festival 2023, organized by the Assam Sports Journalists Association (ASJA).

Several distinguished guests including former Ranji player Mrigen Talukdar, ASJA President Subodh Malla Barua, veteran sports journalists Pabitra Gogoi and Balendra Mohan Chakravarty and senior journalist Pranay Bordoloi, TOPCEM Cement General Assembly Abhishek Chakraborty and others attended the closing ceremony present. They also raffled off prizes for cricket, football, badminton, table tennis and chess.
